and I saw Garrett and Tyler both play in high school as well- didn't see Clayton Moore- was based off of the fact that in my opinion, Tyler was the better of the two. That's not saying that Garrett was necessarily horrible. But if you have two QB's that are in the same class, at least one is not going to pan out. So, you might as well grayshirt the one that is not as good as the other. Of course, now I don't think grayshirts are allowed at all anymore, so really we need to sign one QB and go with them from here on out.
And as far as South Panola making Garrett look bad- let's be honest here, they've made a lot of people look bad. They are an awesome team that has at least one Dandy Dozen player per year plus guys like Kendrick Market. They made Tobias Singleton look bad last year as well. He's not a bad player. And I could probably provide plenty of other examples except I haven't watched every single South Panola game to provide them.
What really soured me on Garrett was when he de-committed, I kind of got the impression that he really didn't want to compete for the job, and basically wanted it to be given to him. Reading between the lines on his "God told me to go to LSU" comments and the "Croom screwed me over" comments. To me, if a guy, especially a QB, wants something given to him and doesn't want to compete for the job, well I would rather them be somewhere else personally.
Both Tyler and Garrett had "dreams" of being MSU's QB. Tyler didn't care that we had one Dandy Dozen QB already committed and didn't care if he had to compete for the job. Chris did.
And I do know for a fact that Croom lied to Garrett. So, it does make me wonder if Croom could have handled that situation a lot better than he did. Maybe being honest would have been better in this case - and when I say being honest, make it clear that we would be recruiting both Garrett and Russell, not honest as in you're the only guy we're going to recruit.
