Turf grass topic: zoysia zeon

I hear that this type of zoysia is shade and drought resistant. Is this true? I am considering laying did and want to be sure it's worth it... And on that line, what needs to be done to the existing earth so that the chances of it thriving?

I live in roswell ga, amnd am considering putting it down soon.

To make it sports, playing golf on zoysia is great !

Not sure about zeon, but I have royal zoysia. The parts of my yard that get the least sun, less than four hours/day, look the best. They are slower to get going in the spring, but once they finally green up, they do great.

"Glass half full" with zoysia is it the last to go into dormancy in the fall.
Zoysia is a good turf grass. It has a high tolerance to traffic because of silica in the leaves. This also is going to keep your mower blades dulled more often.
I'm not familiar with zeon variety. I checked Craft Farms website because this is where most of the sod comes from in the Jackson area. They don't seem to grow it.

not sure what type but my father in law who is a PH-D in agronomy sprigged Zoysia in his lawn and in 2-3 yrs it completely took over ... grew over the bare dirt in the shade and choked the clover completely out .... beautiful lawn but was hard on the mower and took some maintenance every year

Sorry for not reading and responding to your query earlier. You may want to be cautious using zeon zoysia grass. It is highly susceptible to a disease called 'funky leaf spot', which may make it difficult to maintain depending on your site specifics. Have you considered a turf-type tall fescue? Depending on your location and such, it may be a better option.

What about Empire zoysia ?....I`m considering putting down several pallets of it based on what I`ve read and been told...also I hope it`s not too late to plant it

Empire zoysia is amazing. I laid some over weed covered hard pan, and it did great. At first weeds were popping through between each piece of sod, but within two months all weeds were chocked out. It grows slower than any grass I've seen, needs less water, super thick so it chokes out weeds, and gets dark green. The only negative is it is not very shade tolerant. I didn't lay it until the middle of the summer, so it's not to late.
