KID vs. TheMan

”In this corner, wearing black/white striped trunks and weighing in at 178 lbs., hailing from Wonderland, is the reigning self-appointed champion, consensus Mr. Negative . . . THEMAN!!!!!”

”And in the far-right corner, wearing all white and weighing in at
180 degrees, hailing from WaitTilNextYear, is the undisputed challenger, Mr. Positivity, lets hear it for the old man himself. . .’I Kid You Not’. . . KID!!!!

”Gentlemen, we want a fair fight, gloves off; however, no gouging or biting, a la Tyson’s Bite Fight, just straight-forward hay-makers! Now, go to your corners and FIND SOME JOY!”

Except I started this thread in which the OP was overwhelmingly positive :)

After the open date, it's brutal enough.
Well, it's never going to be easy in the SEC.

Next year's schedule is a bit more manageable than this year's, and we had opportunities to win the Bama, LSU, and Ole Miss games (and Clemson in the non-conference part). If the D doesn't regress and the offense makes some strides under Briles, it may not be all so bad.

I hope not. Something needs to work around here.

Well, up is about the only direction to go after this season.

Right. We almost have to get better by default AND the schedule isn't quite as daunting. I mean, still daunting, but slightly less so. AND Beamer hired 3 of the most legit coaches he's ever hired. The first OC he's hired who could have gone to other P4 programs.

Honestly, what record would constitute a successful season in 2026 for you?

I'm not sure the new coaches have that much talent to work with. I can foresee the new coaches doing a great job and South Carolina still going 6-6.

I think if we can get to 7 regular season wins, that should be acceptable. Eight would be successful.

There's a path, but just all depends on how it comes together. I know we've all debated Sellers to death, so we don't need to rehash all those arguments, but if Briles can tap into Sellers' athleticism and craft an offense suited to his strengths, that's a huge factor. Of course, OL play will be key. We were so abysmally awful the last 3 seasons, it's not really possible to be worse. Clements has actually been a P4 OL coach and has put several in the NFL, so I think we are due for an upgrade there.

If Briles can coach the self destruction out of Sellers, that might create a couple of wins. Simplifying the offense could help too. Give Seller less to think about and let him play looser. A simpler offense might also help the OL play better.

I think 7 wins should be the minimum requirement for Beamer to keep his job.

One would think that. But there was that one time in 1999…

(Referee Mills Lane) ‘Let’s get it on!’

Nice. Actually that nickname does come from a brief boxing journey back in the day.
