how about that "he went outta bounds, but was interfered with, but the other guy touched the ball first, but was ineligible, but it was intercepted" crazy **** in the UM/Bammer game a few years back?... nutty.
There were so many things wrong with that one.
1) I don't think it was a reviewable call based on the way I read it in the rule book.
2) Even with the television feed frame by frames produced, there was an angle where it "looked like" our receiver probably touched it first, but there was no camera angle showing a definitive touch that didn't have both players hands on the ball.
Just another case where they were working with non-HD feeds. I still can't believe they were working off small non-HD screens. With the technology available, there was no reason why the league couldn't have bought twelve 50-60" HD TVs to distribute to each replay booth.
Anyway, on that call, as odd/bad as it was, I realize it really didn't matter. If I recall, even if we had received the call in our favor, we would've had the ball at the 4 yard line with 4 seconds left, time enough for 1 play, down 3.
Knowing Ed Orgeron, we would've gone for the TD, but we wouldn't have realized they were going to start the clock back, and we would've failed to get a snap off before the clock ran out, something like that would've occurred, or even if we had been able to get a snap off we would've thrown an incompletion or fumbled the snap, or if we had gone for the FG, it would've hit the upright. It was so frustrating at the time, because Orgeron couldn't get over the hump to pull off a halfway decent win. In hindsight, it doesn't bother me that much. What's the difference between 3-9 and 4-8? Nothing really.
