The outfield umpires are out there to make sure that very play is called correctly. How can that guy miss that one? It was fair by a foot and he's looking straight down the line at it.

Yankee HR as I type....</p>

but these umps were terrible all night on both sides. Not to mention the HBP call they missed the other night that would have sent Detroit to the playoffs

The same way they missed the Jeffery Maier play way back when. Umpires are old, slow, fat, and mostly horrible. You look at officials in all other sports that I can think of (football, basketball, soccer, hockey), and they are typically in good to excellent shape.

And they're by far the best team that I have seen play this year in person (Cardinals, Royals, A's, Orioles, and Yankees).

Ironically, I think the difference for them was adding Nick Swisher because he gave the Yankees the blue collar element that they've lacked for the past few years.

1st base for a phantom out during the World Series years ago. <17> the Twinks! Kirby Puckett = Donovan McNabb = most overrated players of all time! (sorry had to throw in the NFL thing there. Rush was right!)

I was talking about that last night. Nick Swisher is a very good player that gets over looked because of all the big names on the roster.

I think Swisher's attitude has helped a lot in the clubhouse by loosening things up. They do no seem to be near as corporate and business like as they have in the past, I think Burnett has helped with that as well.

Hall of Famer, 10 time all star, 6 gold gloves, 2 world championships. McNabb? Sounds like someone still has their feelings hurt over that game six HR in '91. RIP #34
