Since Scout.comhasn't been able to get Chuck and Yancy to stop their
Ole Miss Spirit subscribers from stealing and then posting Steve's chat
room posts and his recruiting bones on their site, I'm giving you guys
the same courtesy as Chuck and Yancy have given their folks.

So,
have fun posting on here whatever you want to fromtheir chat room
recruiting posts and any of Yancy's premium recruiting tidbits.

BTW,
I absolutely hate doing this because it is my business as well as
another man's business that is being affected but it appears there is no
other solution at the moment.

Instead of "What's your favorite pizza topping CJ?" it's going to be "So, CJ, does Ole Miss going 4-8, losing to Jacksonville State and losing the Egg Bowl factor into your recruitment?"

Heck, I don't know, it might be a good thing. Who knows? Maybe Dan asked him why the hell he wasn't contacting our recruits over the dead period.

I will say this- with the rise of BDJ, and Yancy making Rosebowl look like a complete ***-clown, Gene probably knows that there are going to have to be some changes if he wants to keep his business up. Because right now, the only thing that is saving his tail is Scouts database.

I keep seeing this talk about not being able to make contact, but I believe the definition is one phone call per week per player, and you can still send letters during a dead period. I also believe the player can call the coaches at any time during a dead period if they choose. I can't remember if they closed the loophole where coaches would text a player saying "call me" to get around the rule by having the player officially make the phone call, but I still believe the player can talk to the coaches all he wants, just not in person.

A dead period doesn't cut off all contact, and there is nothing in the NCAA rules about recruiting "reporters" contact. If there was, then they'd have been all over Gene for Lee Chambers and Chas Ramsey, and they'd have been all over Gene/Rosebowl/Yancy for Robert Elliott and their interview war.

I'm surprised Mary Ann let him post that level of aggressiveness.

they definitely need to be changed. Teams that are sitting home from a bowl game get too big of an advantage during this period because their TOTAL focus is still on recruiting while coaches of teams going to bowls are practicing for a game, making game preparations and traveling and playing in a game. And I would say that no matter which school was going to a bowl and which was sitting at home as the year before it was OM going to a bowl while MSU was not. There are just way too many loopholes to essentially be able to make all the contact you want with recruits and the perfect time to make your best pitch to steal someone else's recruit or at least get a big leg up while they are preoccupied with preparing a team for a game. Its really not "dead" at all in truth. Heck, you know these coaches have people in place at different locations they can call and tell them to get the word over to the player to please give them a call. That wouldn't be difficult at all to do. Based on the rules you are saying are currently in place I think its a joke to call it a dead period especially given the cutthroat nature of recruiting in the SEC. The spirit of the current rules might work in areas where folks aren't as football crazy and ethics are higher on the priority list but won't work in the SEC where coach's careers are often made or broken during recruiting.

than our coaches texting recruits because they aren't in a bowl. I don't see it as an advantage. You are playing in a bowl. That does enough recruiting for you.

How long ago did it happen?

As far as I'm concerned, Jeanspage is a sinking ship, with askipper busy fanny pack shopping and a first mate who can't figure out how to dial 911 for help.

If it was truly that big of an advantage, then MSU and Vandy should have dominated the last decade in recruiting.

Agree with everything. Unfortunately when a guy comes up on the BDJ board, I normally look him up on Scout.

I would LOVE for Gene to start asking questions like "So, will all the rumors of Ole Miss firing coaches AFTER SIGNING DAY, does that change the way you feel about OM?"
I agree could be a good thing.

I saw Paul mention that NC State's Rivals guys got in trouble for conveying messages from coaches to recruits. Saying things like "How does it feel to be the top WR NC State is after this year?"

If you purchase a premium subscription to Scout.com, then why shouldn't you already get Yancy's "premium" info? I mean, he is a Scout employee and your are paying for "premium" info from Scout. Just because its posted with an OM slant doesn't make it less premium.

unless you buy a membership to both boards. Gene's view is that a poster should not be allowed to post it on the other's page...especially since they all work for the same parent company.

but it will be interesting to see how this year's recruiting class stacks up with last year's when we sat home. Of course Mullen's first class that was put together largely by Croom and staff was definitely a very good year and of course we sat home that year too.

went out the window once it started appearing that the MSU football program was gaining the upper hand after the second beatdown. They feel their whole world is out of kilter right now and whatever they need to do to change it back they will attempt to do. Same thing happened back in some of Sherrill's better years. Back then Khayat's influence with the NCAA was used against an easy target in JWS. I sort of wonder if the new "anything goes" policy in the SEC under Slive will be the method to try to get things righted in their world this time. Those that have been around this rivalry a LONG time know that the MSU PTB take losing to UM a LOT better than the UM PTB take losing to MSU.

I just believe that if I pay Scout for premium information, then I should have access to that premium information whether its posted by Chuck, Steve, Yancy or Filipe. I mean, whats the point of paying for something if you're getting filtered information or at least not all the information available?

Bingo. A bowl game and the extra practice time that come with it are much more of an advantage than sitting at home with extra time to recruit.

And last I checked, there is no reason a coach couldn't still make phone calls to prospects while practicing for a bowl game or while on the bowl trip. I believe they do have cell towers in Jacksonville right?

were not doing ANY recruiting just that the dead period rules are pretty much a joke and that the coaches of bowl teams have a lot of other things on their plate. Based on the last few years' results it appears that bowl games are not an advantage for in state recruiting. In 08 and 09 MSU probably had the better in-state haul and sat home. This year UM sat home and may very well get the better of it in-state. I do believe the bowl game helps with recognition from out of state recruits and we are seeing that now.
