I hope it turns out ok but taking a 21 foot craft out 50 miles? That's pretty damn dumb under the conditions. Pretty dumb under just about any condition.

I ain't going out 50 miles on the chop in one of those.

Bet this is the boat.

through the Gulf of Papagayo during the wrong time of year one time. We got in some really high seas and took on a lot of water and almost rolled a couple times and had to turn back. It was a hairy deal. I hope these guys turn up ok eventually.</p>

capsized. That wasn't cool. It was about 50 degrees outside and the water was cold as hell. I got trapped under the boat tangled in the fuel line when it first flipped. Scary. Luckily this was right next to the ferry and they picked us up. I think the island was called Cape Lookout.

third time it had ever been in the water. Shook all the beer up so bad that we had to hang them over the boat to open them while at the waterfall. Damn all you houseboats, barges, and Cigarette boats! And there was a strong breeze to boot!

I was wasted one time riding a jet ski through 20 foot swells in the Straights of Gibraltar when a ship full of pirates attempted to take me hostage. Lucky for me Im a badass and I murdered everyone on board.

...having a drunk dumbass at the wheel can spell potential disaster.

Two friends and I went fishing on a clear, calm day out by the oil rigs off Dauphin Island about two years ago in a 19' Wellcraft Step V. We were about 8-10 miles out. We had a great day fishing, caught about 30 mahi mahi in the grass line, 3 lemon fish under the grass line, and a couple of Kings. The owner of the boat and I were sitting in the back drinking some Corona's while our drunk dumbass friend was piloting the boat back to Ocean Springs. After what seemed to be a VERY LONG time, longer than necessary, I looked at the position of the late evening sun, and quickly determined we were not heading northwest toward Ocean Springs, but were heading southwest toward the mouth of the Mississippi River. Further, the gas guage was reading close less than 1/4 of a tank. It took 45 minutes and siting the Chandelieur Islands to the northwest to convince our drunk dumbass pilot he was wrong. He finally turned the boat back toward the Ship Island/Horn Island Pass. It took another hour to get to Ocean Springs, and I swear we were on fumes when we got there. It doesn't take much bad judgment to get people in trouble on the open sea.

We routinely take our 25' boat 30, 50, or 75 miles out but we aren't stupid enough to do it in rough seas... 8' to 10' seas are the most the boat, or me for that matter, want to be in...

Its pretty sad how some of you can just start making jokes about this kind of stuff in a thread like this. Shows that you actually care about these lost people. My gosh grow up and get over yourselves

While I love a good smartass joke as much as the next guy, there are 4 lives hanging in the balance and most likely presumed dead. Jokes are in bad taste here no doubt.

These guys obviously weren't very sea savvy to be heading out that far in that rig, particularly with a nasty front moving their way. I hope they're found alive but I feel like with all of the search crews they've got working these guys are all goners. Prayers sent.

How fast can 8' seas turn into 15' seas? I have no idea.

When a front is pushing through (like it was yesterday) it can change within an hour and certainly within several hours.
