if either of those kids had been my kid, i would have pulled him from the game myself if the coach wouldn't. i know it's important to win, but these 2 kids have potential MLB futures. this kinda stuff could cost them millions.

for winsin a single season (25 W's) and also strikeouts in a season(366 k's in 1985).........I played against him and til this day he'sone of the most dominant hs pitchers I've ever seen, along with Ronnie Richardson / Columbus Lee and Kirk Presley / Tupelo......Rex Berryman literally ruined him.......Berryman is one of the winningest coaches in MS HS history but he threw Salters til his arm was dead.........No telling how many innings he pitched in 1985 alone and he pitched a heck'uva lot of innings in the season prior to that....
By the time the draft rolled around his arm was gone........Ending up going to Jackson Stateand was never the same.........Reminded me of J.R. Richards of the Houston Astro's..........BTW, I think Richardson is one of the national hs all time leader in career wins.......

http://www.nfhs.org/recordbook/Records.aspx?CategoryId=175
under the wins records he's listed as Paul Salters

Acouple of observations:

1. Some thing is fishy about the categories "Baseball-Team-Most Grands Slams-Game-Both Teams" and "Baseball-Team-Most Grands Slams-Game-One Team". Stanhope Elmore (AL) and Prattville (AL) combined for 5 slams, with Stanhope Elmore hitting 4, yet they don't show up on the "one team" list where the record is 4.

2. Atlantic (IA) had quite the offensive production vs Griswold (IA) in 1928. See the records for:
Baseball-Team-Most Hits-Game-Both Teams
Baseball-Team-Most Hits-Game-One Team
Baseball-Team-Most Home Runs-Game-Both Teams
Baseball-Team-Most Home Runs-Game-One Team
Baseball-Team-Most Runs Scored-Game-Both Teams
Baseball-Team-Most Runs Scored-Game-One Team

That must've been a long day for Griswold.

And, yes, I'm bored.

Any of y'all ever meet/see Dave Clark play (noticed him on the list for Top 10 highest BA in a season)? I remember, around 95 or so I guess him at the batting cage in Tupelo and he would buy out all all the stalls and take the pitches standing about 20 feet away from the machines. He was pudgy and just hanging on in the majors at that time but still had crazy fast hands

strikeouts alone we know he pitched 122 innings........That's freaking unreal and we didn't play quite as many games back then as they do now.........Berryman should be ashamed of himself because he ruined this kid.............</p>

Coaches should consider warmups and throws (to keep baserunners close) in addition to actual pitches. I saw my HS coach leaveguys in based upon incomplete datafrom the scorekeeper -- who failed to keep track offoul balls after the count went to two strikes.

I went round and round with this pitch-count limit issue with the guys than ran the local rec-league, in whichmy boys played. The "commissioners" limited the pitchers to 5 innings rather than an actual pitch count. Heck, I saw some kids throw as few as 43 and as many as 104 pitches in five innings.

Someday, a HS coach is going to get sued for pullingsuch a stunt.

Parents need to step in whena coach is risking injury to their child in a thinly veiled effortto keep a job. It might embarrass the child and make the coach mad, but the parents are in the position to remember that the main portion oftheirchild's life is post-HS... when99% of the people around you don't really care about a person's HS athletic achievements.

Pitch count is the key.
I have seen kids throw 3 pitches in an inning and I've seen kids throw 50+ pitches in an inning.
I coached youth ball for 7 years. I'm the only coach who kept stats. At the end of the game I'd give the opposing coach pitch counts with strike %age. About three coaches cared. Most coaches thought I was a nut who didn't know anything about "real baseball" despite the fact that my teams always finished 1st or 2nd.
They were all like Al Davis, "Just win baby."
