Brutal, he’s been fantastic this year. Maybe they go back to a 2 LB model with one of Dixon, igbinosun, or loyal playing a rover like role?

We’ll see. Penn State actually started out with a 4-2-5 but then saw more success with the 3-3-5.

For now, I would guess we start with the
4-2-5 with Toure and Jennings as the LBs and Igbinosun as the rover. However, We will really miss Powells playmaking and sense of anticipation. He was very good at reading his keys and positioning himself in the optimal position to make the play. His replacements will do their best.

At his position 4-6 weeks would work as they could use several of the newer light weight braces which would protect the healing bones . Pins ….probably 4 weeks. Rehab can start at around 6 weeks… so a late December Bowl game might be possible or they could figure call it done and hope for another solid season from Tyreem.played great football in the middle…time for Toure , maybe Djbome, Fletcher is my choice.
At this point, unless we're playing in the Rose Bowl doubt he comes back for the bowl. Should rest up. He's an NFL prospect no need to take risks.

Checked on rehab for similar broken hand 3-4 weeks post surgery it begins and I would agree they will shut him down.

Fu@!...I know Moses walker is more of a weak side linebacker...Collins suspended for first half...who plays the middle first half against OSU? Dam, that's a big loss man...he really sets a tone out there ..dammit...I was really thinking they win 2 more games, this makes that more difficult when the best player on the best unit goes down smh

Not really… tough loss but if we thought we were not going to lose some top line players then shame on Rutgers… he would help yes but losing Powell does not end the season for this team KEEP CHOPPING!!!!!!!!!

Huge huge loss with the way he was playing , All BiG 10 caliber , but how he chases running backs and short passes to the backs sideline to sideline. Toure does it well too but not as smooth. Both have gotten much better in dropping into pass coverage. Jennings , who is having a sub par year, compared to last year, has to really step up. Plus after first half of Ohio State , Wright -Collins has the speed but not the experience but must also step up. Not seeing Moses Walker much this year , but maybe the bye week gets him up to date with the scheme.
Now more than ever , we need our defensive line to create more pressure on the QB. The whole unit has to make up for Powell’s immense loss

DAMN IT!!! -Tyreem was having one heck of a season. He was a BEAST out there and really hate to see this happen to him.

Well, get well soon, young man. We're all pulling for you and looking forward to the day when you're past this injury and feeling 100% again.

We have several good options. Good teams must prepare those next man up players for scenarios like this.
In the Schnyderite podcast they were speculating the injury might be the wrist and not the hand. Hand injuries get casts and players can still play.

On the speculative "plus" side there was some talk of player leaving for NFL and this might keep him @ RU a year

Wrist would be worse as it could involve the placement of pins and a plate. Plenty of bones in hand and wrist. He’ll be fine.

Our best defensive player...on a squad with a lot of other contenders for that title.

I would hope so since next season could actually be something special for this team. No long term projections but I believe we have the base for an even better season at Rutgers.

The base defense has been 4-2-5 all season with Dixon, Loyal, Igbinosun, Melton and Longerbeam in the back end. Toure has gotten the vast majority of his snaps at LB spelling Jennings and Powell, and is the 3rd leading tackler. He will take over that role full-time now with little drop-off. Question is who is going to be the 3rd LB going forward and will he maintain the level of play?

Agree as long as NIL is a net wash. A lot of these guys are going to get big offers from other schools.

Hard to think of a guy that would be a bigger loss for us on the entire team/any unit.
Kyle Monongai is the one guy that comes to mind. After that, I pretty much agree. Our chances against Iowa and UMD certainly take a hit. Thank God we're already at 6 wins.

Very interesting point and I don't disagree. It runs counter to the analytics folks that deemphasize the rb position - but me, you, every fan I'd guess watching last game when Kyle got hurt and then came back thought the same thing. "Oh no...we might lose now. Oh Kyle's back? Then we will definitely win."

I have no doubt that Toure is going to come in and do a great job. But we are going to see some dropoff, because he doesn’t have Powells instincts or athleticism. And the 3rd LB is going to be green, relatively speaking. We’ll just have to hope for the best.

Greg said it hurts, but next man up and gets a chance to shine.
Seems like it will be Toure and then figure out who replaces him.
we just need to get out of the OSU game without any more serious injuries so we can have a chance for another road victory at IOWA.

We just should wanna play the type of game vs. Ohio State that will make RU's fans wanna come back to another game.
