Sorry if Germans, I didn't see it posted, but UAB is about to be the first FBS school to have their players join a players association:

UAB becomes first D-I football team to join PA

The UAB football team became the first in Division I to sign on with Athletes.org, a budding players' association.

Their head coach, Trent Dilfer, actually encouraged it and introduced them to the association.
