UAB's roster is horrible

While writing a scouting report on the Blazers, I checked out their crootin. For reference, USM's 4-year average was #81 and we saw their overall talent...

Recruiting Rankings:

2011- #99
2012- #108
2013- #90
2014- #113
4-year average- #102.5
Quick Take: There isn’t any other way to put it besides that this is one of the least talented rosters in football. When you look deeper it gets worse. The most talented player they have signed over the last 4 years was a composite 84 3-star and it doesn’t appear that he ever enrolled. Further, the class of 2011, which is now seniors, did not sign a single 3 star player. The highest rated players from that class were 2 composite 78 2-stars and they are no longer on the roster.

Didn't they recruit 15 JUCO's or something ridiculous last season?

I don't trust recruiting rankings at all for mid majors. They are usually probably accurate in the sense that midmajors are ranked below schools from major conferenes, and mid majors usually do get less talent than schools from major conferences, but I don't think being 100th is different from being 70th.

Our fans use the excuse all the time that if an msu commit switches to bama that he gets a ratings bump. You could say that for some of their players too I'm sure. I'm sure their roster isn't very talented but I bet they have a few good players who didn't get properly evaluated because they were going to uab

And USM beat them by close to 40 pts last year. My buddies handicapping service says their #1 game this week is us the -28. Looks like it will be wet again for what that's worth.

Not that I disagree with your

overall sentiment, that they suck, but is there really a difference between being ranked "81" and somehwere in the "90s" or "100s" in this subjective ranking system?

Not really but 20+ spots in recruiting average is a big deal in Dave Bartoo's cfb matrix. Maybe it holds less weight as you get real high. I don't know... I was just shocked at their roster. I think the state of Alabama has 50+ 3-star players this year. They didn't even sign a 3-star in the 2011 class. That's amazing to me.

What's the

average "star ranking" for both? I would venture to guess that you're talking about maybe 2-3 guys that maybe are ranked a "3" instead of a "2." To me they're the same.

Well, what does that make Troy? I hope our guys don't take them as lightly as

we are.

I don't follow. Composite star rankings are all services combined and it's all I use.

Isn't this about what we were under Croom? (until the last year)

ETA: Nope, I was thinking about offense. And I'm pretty sure we ranked lower than 102.5 on average.

UAB, USM and any other Sunbelt-Conf USA team should recruit a lot of JUCOs. To me that is the best way for them to compete. Go and get 15 players that can can play. The JUCO is the way for them to go--Check out Kansas ST that's the way they drug up off the bottom.

Yeah I guess

my point is that there's no difference in talent bt a team in the 80s and one in the 90s/100s

Roddy White? I'm sure they aren't great by any means, talent wise, but some of these kids slip through the cracks.
