National media covered Kansas beating UofL but hardly a peep about us beating Purdue.

Fans on social media still making excuses some saying UK won’t even make the S16 (some stupid enough to say we will miss the tourney).

I’d say we’re back. I hope we best the dog crap of people this year. Make them realize we’re not playing around anymore.

What do you think RR? Do you think we’re being disrespected a bit after a decent season last year and a seemingly good showing so far?

I tend to be of the mindset that exhibitions are pretty meaningless. We could have won or lost by 50 and I would have likely felt the same.

I honestly don't even think early season games are a good barometer either. So many factors play out over the course of the season that alter things for everyone. I think you really get the most accurate depiction of who/what a team really is during conference play.

We were also in Rupp, where we were pretty good last year. How will things look when we are in a neutral or road environment?

if we lost by 50 we’d be being dogged right now by opposing fan bases and you know it. Hell this board would be in semi meltdown.

I’m not crowing us by any means but it’s a bit frustrating no one is giving us any credit for a well played game, exhibition or not. And it’s not like we played just anyone either.

I meant what I would do, not what other fanbases or fans would do. Some overreact.

I mean, I would say a lot of people were pretty impressed, but again, it was just an exhibition. They aren't going to give us a banner or make us #1 because of that.

Honestly wasn't overly impressed with Purdue or Smith. They appear to have been pretty overrated. Whether that was due to us causing the issue or them just not being that great is still to be determined.

People that don’t like UK aren’t going to give us a bunch of credit for winning an exhibition game. You’re talking about social media posts. Literally who cares

Because like it or not social media controls the narrative.

Because you KNOW if we lost last night the opposite would be true. Everybody and their grand mother would be talking horrible crap. Heck some of our fans would be.

maybe I’m just fed to the teeth with all the hypocrisy in the world.

I dunno. Would just be nice to see a headline that says UK put CBB on notice. Because I sure think we did. I mean our bench guys were giving it to Purdue’s starters.

The jealousy is only going to build and build. Let it eat away at them and just sit back and have fun as they want you to get angry about it.

Yeah , if you look at his posting history he’s all about Cal . So he’s either switched to being an Arkansas fan or he’s in zombie land because he’s bitter at his basketball program because his true love (Cal) isn’t there anymore .

I guess I just don’t care what people say on social media. Like, at all. Think it would have mattered what people said on social media about the 96 Cats? Just go out there and keep kicking everyone’s asses and who cares.

I tend to believe that exhibition games of the past definitely meant nothing. And today they would mean nothing if these top 25 teams battling in October opted to treat them like the NFL and NBA does - putting in 2nd and 3rd stringers and saving their stars for the regular season.

But that's not how this goes these days. We beat a fully-loaded #1 Purdue without our starting PG and with a freshman center (Garrison isn't really a C). They were not a newly-put together team - even the announcers went on and on about their returning core of "experienced senior" players.

Last night wasn't an anomaly - Painter didn't hold back because it was an exhibition game, and neither did Pope. They played it like a regular season game. The only difference between exhibition and regular season last night was simply the fact that it was called an exhibition game and doesn't show on the record. But that game and all other big ones like KU/UL were not merely scrimmage type exhibitions trying out different lineups - they were full on games in the minds of the coaches and players.

Nor would I expect them too. But it’s just kind she washed over and that shouldn’t happen either. Especially when you talk about other games like UofL/Kansas and Missouri/KState.

Think it just further proves the media (both national and social) has a very negative bias towards us and we get gaslit all the time saying otherwise.

Exhibitions are pretty much meaningless. I like to see them because the guys finally are actually playing against somebody else, we played really well but I'm not getting excited quite yet.

Well, I say let them continue to sleep on this Kentucky team. The proof will be on the floor. Exhibition, regular season, post season. JUST WIN. that's what we do better than anyone else in college basketball. Keep winning. Last I checked Kentucky has more of those than anyone else. They will be talking about us, I like flying under the radar, cause with the schedule we got this year and the beatdowns we are going to deliver ... yeah ..... And in the meantime ?

move along ... nothing here to see here ... move along ...

move along in a nice quiet, orderly, single file line. Nothing to see here.... move along ....

back to your regularly scheduled programming !

Of course it’s an exhibition, but you can absolutely take things from it. But yeah, let’s all ignore everything until January.

I just hate starting the season without all the players. If they develop a pace and chemistry that is succeeding, the introduction of Lowe and JQ could create issues that lessen their efficiency. We saw this a couple of years ago when they were cruising with ball movement that was superb only to have it upended when the seven footers arrived. Then Everyone on line was excited but just knew we would be unbeatable when we had all that height. They looked really good last night with a great home crowd. I’ll reserve my judgement after the full squad is available and how consistent they play in home, neutral and away environs.

Thank you! That’s what I’m saying.

If Purdue eeked out a two points win it would be “Purdue grits out tough win. Primed for title run”.

We embarrass them and crickets.

Very true. Watched the Kansas/uofL game afterwards and Kelsey was coaching his *** off like there was something on the line.

loved what I saw from the cats last night. Defense and rebounding seemingly will be a consistent trait with this team which will give us a chance in games where offensively we aren’t at our best. Impressed with Aberdeen filling in for Jalen. Johnson is a bucket and will be hard to keep off the floor. Chandler offered excellent on ball defense. Everyone played their role last night and those roles are still developing. This team has all the parts to be really special.

I agree. With the rule changes exhibition games are not what they used to be. Everyone played their version of Georgetown College NOT the real Georgetown. I would venture to say the preseason #1 team has never played the preseason #9 team in an exhibition game in college basketball history.
Preseason games before this year told you nothing. Beating Purdue told us a lot.

Yes it’s frustrating, I agree
That being said…we can and will prove them wrong. Did it last year and we’re already better this year defensively.
So let them say what they will…or not give credit due
It’ll come back and bite them

Interested in how Bilas behaves this year. There was a calculated effort from him to downplay Kentucky last year. Even more than usual.

Not sure if it was related to Cal being gone, or just that he had walking orders to try to kick us while we might be down during the transition.

He’s a sneaky sneaky Dukie.

I believe the team is REALLY GOOD! So, this might be confirmation bias, but they looked really good in that game, and I don't think either team went out there was good with taking an L in their first game even tho it's an exhibition.

I would normally agree with the thought that exhibitions are meaningless. They usually are. UK's usually are. But this wasn't your usual exhibition. This was a Purdue team coming in ranked #1 preseason. And both teams did play a lot of guys, but Purdue played their best players significant minutes, more than any UK player got. And those guys played together all last year and are upperclassmen. Purdue should have been able to run its offense with its best returning players without missing a beat. Sure, you expect points to be scored but this was a defensive struggle, not a typical exhibition.

And to the OP's point- the national media almost never gives UK its due. I'm not surprised they spent little time talking about our win over #1 Purdue. It has to be a fluke, right? Even though the Cats won with defense, not hot 3pt shooting.

this game gave me confidence of what this team CAN be, spin it any way you want, you cant fluke a double digit win a against the number one team in the country, yesterdays game relieved some kf the worries i had with this team
