I would say that player development is as important if not even more important as recruiting.
We all have seen what our current coach recruiting abilities are so I am not going to insist about that again.
Player development is essential in general, and could serve as a recruiting tool, but more Importantly is the guarantee for a team success. Unfortunately, in the past two years this aspect was completely neglected by MP.
it could be not having the right staff to help, not having the right individualized plan for each player that includes off-season private practices, but something is not workin. We would expect from a coach who played under coach RP, a master in player development that was in synch with his in game tactics, to be somewhat good at it.
Maybe player development was not something that MP focus in his first two years.
Not having, the right assistant staff , medical staff , conditioning and recovery staff, mental coaching in place is not very assuring that things will i prove in MP third year.
When the current roster is build upon : RP, BH as red shirt players , MW and ZH as freshman, MM, TN and KW as returning players with well know developmental needs, plus domestic and international transferred players with specific developmental needs, this screams of hire the right staff to help developing these players and have the right individualized private plan for each player based on their needs and the style you as a coach going t play.
On paper, so far our current roster doesn't have a superstar or complete player that doesnt need development. It doesn’t have even the very experienced players from MP first year. So, developing these players and coaching them up is the only way to have a somewhat successful year, and make up for luck of start power.
As a UK fan , I hope MP doesn’t ignore once again the player development aspect. My expectations though are not too high based on how in the past MP has operated.
