Not sure how Ron English, or any DC can be responsible for a defense that fails to complete a tackle after making contact. Honestly, Ward was not the difference yesterday, as Shough matched his performance. It was our defense that failed to finish off the tackles on Miami receivers and running backs despite making contact.

Not trying to make excuses for Jeff Brohm and his staff, but the consequences associated with the combination of NIL and the Transfer Portal, has only reduced the level of influence that any coaching staff can have on these players. Redshirting true freshman, with the likelihood of having the same players for 5 years in the same program brought stability, as the staff could have sufficient time to teach fundamental football.

I would like to extend credit to the NCAA masterminds for knowing that all of these changes would result in parity, with schools like IU clobbering Nebraska, Vanderbilt beating Alabama, or South Carolina humiliating Oklahoma …….. but the the NCAA is not that smart, and I suspect that all of this is only going to result in turning what used to be amateur sports, into another level of professional entertainment.

Those players we see each weekend must be thinking about their potential NFL career, or using their skills to showcase their marketability for future NIL revenue in the Portal.

You are right, but even in the NFL players don’t have complete free agency. There are contracts. If this is the model going forward, that’s what us needed in CFB.
