Mackey up and signs with TT, We let Lloyd Allen off to Houston, Barron Dixon to Vandy, and on and on... There is no way anyone could look at how we finished up and state that we are paying players. Are we trying to prove a point that we're squeeky clean or something? Please tell me there is another shoe to drop?

(I want to win at recruiting and win games, that's how you win championship not just compete)

we have but you hit a ceiling at some point if you don't have better talent to mold. Mullen came in preaching making every recruiting class better than the last one and it doesn't appear we are doing that. I realize that talent evaluation for HS players is an inexact science but every class he's had has gone down in the recruiting rankings (25, 38, now 42). And it appears we had more misses this year on our targeted players than we had in the first 2 classes. I know our coaches are very good at developing talent but it just seems it will be difficult to ever move above that 7 to 8 win plateau in this league without bringing in a few more elite players. We shall see though.

It's extremely disappointing to lose out on so many guys that were committed (or supposed 'locks') to us. This one class doesn't kill us in the long run, but we need to step up our game and figure how to close out on the big prospects next year. Missing out on CJ is really one that truly stings.

I didn't get to watch the MS AL All Star game, but everyone says he was the 2nd best player on defense behind CJ. He has good size, and we have some decent guys he can learn from. We will have Slay, Broomfield, and Banks at corner next year, and Broomfield and Banks have had SEC success, so they can teach him what he needs to do to be successful. I think Calhoun and Cox could be a good tandem in 3 or 4 years at corner.

1. There are 5 OL linemen in this class and 3 DL, and as we all know you need solid lines to even begin to compete in the SEC.

2. Though it would have been great to have Brassell, Singelton, etc. the only two players that we really missed on that could have helped next year were Mackey and Johnson. Those hurt a lot especially Johnson, but you have to think that the staff must be somewhat pleased with our LB corps because they didn't scramble too hard after we lost Johnson

3. This class is pretty deep in my opinion. If you like to go based on stars then this class is full of 3 star caliber players. Mullen and Co. don't have all the 2 star "projects" that often littered the signing class of the Croom regime. Would I love to have a class full of 4 and 5 star players? Yes, but I think that there is quality depth in this class.

4. Most of these young men will be able to be redshirted which will prove extremely valuable in the near future. State can redshirt most of the 5 OL they signed and that will pay-off big time in the future.

5. Don't underestimate the talent of some of these players like Cox and Slay. Some of these guys shutdown their recruitment so early that they really didn't get looked at again by some of these major recruiting services. Having seen Cox play, I can't believe he is only a 3 star rated player and the only reason he didn't have tons of other offers was because he actually stuck to the commitment that he made.

everybody wants to complain about these late defections, but landing a true dual-threat qb that even passes C34 eye test... and he arrived in January ...something to be very proud of.

/i can't scout these kids worth a lick, but having 4 qb (maybe 3, but I believe) that are quality SEC qb on roster ...something i have never seen before.
