22 Commits. I can see what many posters on various MSU sites and many MSU writers are saying regarding Chris Jones, but from everything that I am seeing and hearing, all signs point to Oxford. I hope I am wrong, as I dont have a definitive answer either way. Losing him would make what was already a very thin DL class incredibly lacking. The thing that concerns me most about what Ole Miss is doing and what we aren't doing is the big uglies on both sides of the ball. At this point, we are looking at a very typical Mullen class - just a few high potential talents (Shump, Cox, maybe Christy, Wilson, Gray) and a few solid projects and a few head scratchers.

Landing Jones, Mack Alexander and F. Ross would greatly change the complexion of this class, of course.

I dont like our odds to do that, but I would be thrilled too.

We cant really worry about what Ole Miss is doing with their class. But losing Jones changes all that.

Unexcusable for this to happen. I understand a lot of you are hanging on to what C34 and other randoms on this board are saying, and I hope they are right, but it feels like a flock of sheep that are just simply refusing to believe that this could happen - and I have been fooled before. At this point, Jones signing with State would truly shock me - but I dont think anyone really knows what is going down. Have we not learned our lesson here? CJ Johnson, Cam, etc...

I would think we need some DT's. We lost our starters from last year and whose to say how the other guys are going to pan out? They couldn't beat out Cherrington last year, so what does that tell you?

I have no idea what's going to happen, but it was very obvious CJ Johnson was going to sign with Ole Miss by this point two years ago. And Cam isn't remotely comparable, since he never was committed to us.

Thanks. Good stuff

I tend to agree with you about Jones, but we will see. All the random silliness and panic about Jim's from both camps aside, the question I want asked is how do we love such a great prospect, the foundation of our class, who grew up wanting to play for MSU, to Oxford? I mean I could see Bama, LSU swooping in, but Oxford?

something ain't right if that happens. And I mean with our staff.

I think we still have Jones because why would he screw the MSU coaches and staff on signing day. I'd think if he were gonna flip to the Bears, he'd already done so, especially since everyone says he's a stand-up guy.

I used to be that naive, but that is what happens in recruiting. You cant put your faith in another person, particularly one you dont know personally, to be a stand up guy and "do the right thing". Its like Colin Cowherd always says, don't put your faith in athletes or other humans for that matter, and you will never be disappointed (or something to that effect).

To be honest, nothing is comparable to this situation. But you get my point about CJ, Cam, etc.

Great point. I do like our group of Evans, James, Jones and Virges, but no doubt we could use more.

Yeah, but to stay "committed" to MSU with the purpose of flipping on NSD (to create a flashy story) just doesn't seem like something this guy would do...from what I've read about him.

Of course, maybe I am that naive.

Our two biggest needs in this recruiting class were a future QB and Dak's backup starting in 2014. And defensive ends who can rush the QB. If our best QB that ends up on campus ends up being Damian Williams (b/c Cord goes MLB) and our best defensive end we get ends up being Ulric Jones, this recruiting class is a complete and total F- failure by Dan Mullen and his staff.

I'm standing by my intuition on this. I think the reason Coach34 and all these other guys are so confident is because they have inside sources within the program who are confident. I think they're confident because Chris Jones is giving them every assurance he's signing with MSU. Call me a paranoid sky-is-falling Bulldog, but I think after 3 straight Egg Bowls and Dan Mullen's cockiness, Ole Miss is declaring all out nuclear war on us. I think it's a cleverly orchestrated Ole Miss plot to make SURE Dan Mullen doesn't think he needs to go get a Plan B before it's too late to do so. And I think we are going to have some very well-connected people get hit with the shocking, unexpected news Wednesday that Jones faxed in his papers to Oxford.

The fact is that SOMEONE is getting fooled and will end up with egg on their face Wednesday... and history is a very good indicator that it will be us on the losing end of things. He's obviously telling both sides what they want to hear.

Why? Meaning, I can see why Ole Miss would do this, and why we would. But, why

would a recruit to a new school want to get involved in actively screwing the other school?

If you were a top flight recruit and wanted to go to Ole Miss. What would you and your family think if they said ..."Yeah, come here, but string along the other team that has been good to you and let's totally screw them over."

I get why we would do , and why Ole Miss would do it...but why would the guys being recruited want to get involved in that?

Perhaps. We'll know in a few days I guess.

I just can't see how the OM staff could convince Jones to go along with such a devious scheme, however. After all the comments he's made about how much it meant to him that our coaching staff saw his potential when no one else did, I can't envision him not just flipping, but completely dicking us over at the last possible minute. Of course I don't know him from Adam, and who knows which way is up and which way is down anymore in this situation.

I completely agree with this. Recruiting is a dirty game, but to use seventeen and 18 year old high school seniors as a vehicle for screwing another school simply because you don't "like" them is completely and totally over the line. I really hope this is not what's happening. I know nothing bad will ever come from it if it does, but like you said, it's something that I would not be ok with our staff if the shoe were on the other foot. Keep that business between staffs and schools, but don't bring seventeen and 18 year old high school students in that ****.

Clearly, we should have divided our 25 slots amongst QB's and DE's either 13/12 or 12/13. By signing players at other positions, we really screwed ourselves and will now lose 10+ games per year for the next four years. F---------- (that's the worst grade possible if you are asking).

That seems like a silly thing to do. I didn't say I wanted 13 QB's and 12 DE's. But what I am saying is that those two things were our biggest needs. And if we don't get one single high-end SEC prospect at either position onto campus, I view it as an abject failure by our staff. It doesn't deserve a grade because it would be a failure. And I think it's a legitimate position. Hopefully Chris Jones signs, Cord Sandberg shows up, and the issue is moot.

At this point, how would that be shocking, unexpected news? Ole Miss has done everything in their power to create the impression he was signing with them, not us. How does that fit your narrative?

Why would a recruit want to purposefully lie to not only opposing coaches but also to the press? It makes no sense. In fact, the one thing that makes me lean towards believing that Chris was sticking with MSU is how truly bizarre his behaviour would have to be to fit the opposing story.
