That said, the performance of Fletcher at the combine stirred some uneasy feelings I have had for the past 2 years about the line. We have had a LOT of talent on that front. Sure, there have been weak spots during both seasons, lack of a DE to compliment McPhee and the delayed maturation of Boyd and Cox in 2010, and lack of any pass rushing threat at DE last year, but still, I can't help but feel that our defense should have been even better than it showed. In 2010 we had 2 NFL linebackers and conceivably 3 NFL linemen (albeit in various stages of development) in our front 7. 5 NFL players in your front 7 should result in a Top 10 caliber defense, especially when you consider that we were average at worst in the secondary. Last year we had possibly the best DT combo in the league and the 3rd best at worst, and still struggled to get a consistent pass rush. I am hoping to see some philosophical changes in 2012 to get a little more out of our players. </div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Tahoma, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">

We finally have our true pass-rusher in Autry, a slew of talented interior players, a huge run anchor in Eulls (got better and better as the year went on - but still disappeared for long stretches) and a situational pass rusher in McCardell (I am still holding out hope Shane). PJ, Boyd, Cherrington and Quay should more than get the job done on the interior. I list PJ as the starter, but that should be a fun battle to watch this spring. Then we have some good looking guys to bring along like Virges and Preston Smith. If Nick James comes ready to play he could really factor in the rotation. </div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Tahoma, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">
</div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Tahoma, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">2015 and the 4 year Outlook</div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Tahoma, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">
</div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Tahoma, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">Autry really stabilized things here - there really isnt any overstating how huge that is. DE was a concern, but with Autry and Eulls in place we have time to see who develops out of Smith, Harris and the new signees. DT is just stacked. PJ, Quay, James and Virges lock us up for a while. Oh by the way, you still have Jordan Washington there, who we beat out some big programs to sign. Going to have to continue to focus on landing a blue chip high school DE. </div><div style="min-width: 0px; max-width: 99%; font-family: Tahoma, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">

It doesn't bother me in the least that Maiden left. I stumbled across his Twitter account one day, and it pretty much consisted of him talking about how much he hated Starkville and loved marijuana. I bet the coaches didn't care that he left. Besides, he was an OL prospect who pretty much insisted on playing DL, which he wasn't very good at.

I could see Jones moving to end if he loses some weight. He is pretty explosive, and I think he has a better burst than Eulls. Eulls is going to be a damn good player before all is said and done, but I don't think he ever will be much of a threat at as a pass rusher. He has a big frame and will continue to fill out.

That is simply hearsay, though. Take it with a grain of salt.

Would like to see a two or three line rotation, like we had in 1999. Also, hoping that Cherrington comes back from that cheap shot Bradley Sowell gave him on the last play of the Egg Bowl.

we will be slightly better overall on defense next year, just my point of view.

homesick and his weight was down around 250 (sounds like depression). I didn't see his twitter account though. Whatever it was, it is safe to say his heart isn't in football, so it is good that he left the team.

I'm sure Eulls did to, but I wouldratherhave Eulls inside.I think this will be the one position that can determine whether or not we are a good or very good defense.
