They just got screwed on a lane violation on a free throw. The guy clearly didn't violate the lane on the shot, yet the ref screwed it up. It was a one on one and he missed it.

the John Wall play that should have been called in the SEC Tournament 2 years ago?

Had this game been properly officiated, it would have probably come downto the final possession.

I think the violation was on the guard coming from behind the 3 point line. If you are outside of the 3 point lane pretty sure you can't pass the free throw line until the ball hits the rim, just like the shooter. That's how we got screwed against Kentucky in the SEC tourney a couple years ago. On the other hand, that out of bounds call was awful.

The no-call on the goaltend and the out of bounds call were so obvious it was painful. Total garbage.

The rulebook says that those not on the lane must stay behind the free-throw line extended and behind the 3-point arc until the ball hits the rim (see page 85, Rule 9.1.2.g). Players on the lane can enter the lane once the free-throw shooter releases the ball (Rule 9.1.2.e).<div>
</div><div>So it looks like the ref got this one right. I thought any player could move once the ball was released. But apparently that only applies to those on the lane. The rule for other players is more strict.</div>

Yep, lane violation was the right call.<div>
</div><div>On the other hand, the goaltend was horrific, and the out-of-bounds was probably one of the 5 worst calls I've ever seen.</div>

I tried to tweet him so he could give me credit on the air, but no luck. Reggie and Len Elmore called it a bad rule, if it was even a rule. Barkley said the same thing. That one's been on the books a looooooong time. The refs absolutely got that one right. If people want to complain about selective enforcement, then they may have an argument.

I agree with Bilas. The call on Triche should prevent that crew from calling any more games this year.

It's even more shocking to me that they think it's a bad rule. It's a rule for exactly the reason you saw. You would have guards just flying in from the 3-point line in front of the forwards wrestling for position. Not only do you have to box out your man, you have to box out the little guy coming up from whoknowswhere behind you, too!
