This reminds me of UK's coaching search with a lot of thanks but no thanks replies from higher end coaches. The blue blood schools like UK & UNC will have to vastly overpay for a coach to lure them away from a well paying far less pressure school.

If a Sweet 16 gets you worshipped somewhere else, fine. But at a blueblood, the standard is higher, and that’s where the best are supposed to want to be.

If a Sweet 16 gets you worshipped somewhere else, fine. But at a blueblood, the standard is higher, and that’s where the best are supposed to want to be.

I get it but no matter if you are at iowa state or UK you are in the same Tournament trying to win the same trophy.

If you are going to go the competitive route....they might like the challenge of winning it with a small school compared to a UK UNC.

I agree with Pitino. Blue bloods are a thing of the past.

In hindsight, it makes no sense that Rick Pitino would leave the New York Knicks to come coach at Kentucky. In present times, that would considered a huge career downgrade. We aren't talking about the Memphis Grizzlies, we are taking about the freaking Knicks. They were even contenders when he coached them.

Poor ole Brad Stevens has been aggravated to death. There’s no guarantee he would’ve ever done really good at a blue blood. It’s a lot easier to do really good when you’re at a mid major. Look at Shaka Smart and others. Brad Stevens just never did go to the blue blood to prove that theory.

I'll double that for TJ. Part of me thinks when a coach does this it's because his agent has told him that Donovan or Lloyd is going to take the job.

But, FTR, I honestly think he's in his Camelot. Same for McCollum.

If Lane Kiffin would leave Ole Miss for LSU then yes, you can lure coaches away under the right circumstances.

Do I think Tommy Lloyd would want to go to UNC? No, I don't think he'd leave the west coast. Do I think Iowa State's coach or Billy Donovan possibly would? Yeah, probably.

UNC is a hard one though because they have no history of going outside of the Carolina Circle.

Right now Otz is the only tier 1 candidate to say No.

It's not always about the money. Sometimes it's about everything else. Several years ago I had a job offer that doubled my salary. I turned it down because of the required travel and a much higher stress level. I'm glad I turned it down.

Other coaches are comfortable sitting on the sidelines of the dance floor sipping on Arnold Palmers and watching those coaches leave with the hot chick at the end of the night!

I would be sick if Billy Donovan took the UNC job. I have wanted him at UK since Pitino left in 1997.

I had a wise person one time tell us in an employee meeting that when we were getting ready for work, if we had to ask ourselves if an outfit was appropriate to wear to work, that is it probably best not to wear it to work.
