Wow, what a comeback by our ladies. This is a very good win on the road, in a hostile environment, and they had to fight back to get the win. A win like this is definitely going to help us down the road. Our resiliency as a team was truly tested today. Go Heels! Go Erin and Staff! and most in importantly, Way to go ladies!
Will help us going forward. The mental game is half of it.

Cornell will be a great test today. Heels will need to stay focused and not over look this opponent. I'm sure the staff won't allow this to happen coming off of such an emotional W. Won't be surprised if Cornell sits back and packs the circle. Excited to see what game plan the staff rolls out today. I hope we get plenty of PC's.

As we head into the tail end of the season there's a few things I'll be keeping a close eye on, one being our card prone players. Last season through 21G we received 21 GC and 6 YC, this season through 14G we are already at 18 GC and 6 YC. We don't have a deep bench this season, and we need Dani on the field as much as possible. Need Perrin to stay within herself - can be turnover prone and almost always immediately after is flirting with a card.

Most importantly - I'd love to see someone step up around cage and help put some goals away (outside of Bruder/Mendez/RHeck). Kara Heck I feel has been on the brink of becoming a star for us. I like her play a lot, always willing to get down on the field to try and get in passing lanes defensively. Kara has a quick trigger and I think we'll see her net a few more off of it. I really wish we had her from the start of her career, along with Dani if I could be so greedy. Offensively, Anetsberger consistently has great positioning and finds herself in the right spots in front of cage, just need her to put a few home when the opportunity arises. We've seen Ryleigh several times throw an aerial from around the 25' and find an open player inside the circle, but haven't been able to capitalize on it. These are the plays we need someone to step up and finish it! Always easier said than done, I know.

Gooo Heels!

A dominating win! That was needed from a fan's perspective as I'm sure from the team's after so many tight competitions lately. Does anyone know why we aren't playing the bench as much? Are we redshirting Reid Miller (haven't seen her in any game- or is she hurt?). Also Anderson and Narleski have played minimal. Seems like unless they are injured or redshirting they would be getting minutes in games like today. Anyone have an idea ?

UNC has only one regular season ACC game left this season so the ACC regular season standings leader is coming into focus:

To get the #1 seed again:

  • 6-1 UNC has to beat #8 dook at home for the season finale in 2 weeks on Halloween night. That gives us a 7-1 record with a loss to WF.
  • 6-0 WF plays dook this Friday: a loss there would make a 1 seed more possible.
  • 6-0 WF plays 6-1 UVA on Halloween night. We need UVA to win.
    • Assuming we beat dook next friday , and Wake beat dook this Friday: a UVA win creates a 3-way tie between WF, UNC and UVA, all at 7-1. The tie break goes to goal differential among the three teams, so we need UVA to win by exactly 1 goal... to tie here and go to teh next tiebreak: overall ACC goal differential where we have a commanding lead.
    • Assuming we beat dook, and Wake lost to dook, a UVA win creates a two-way ties with UVA and we win the tiebreaker as head-to-head winner.
    • assuming we beat dook, Wake loses to dook, and wake beats UVA: we tie with Wake but they win the tiebreak. (head-to-head)
What is at stake: the 1 seed will likely get an unranked team in teh quarters, top 10 dook or cuse in teh semis, and play the 2/3 winner for the title, whereas the 2 or 3 seed will get a ranked team in the quarters, play one top 7 team in the semis, and the other in the final. So not that much different but a 1 seed would be nice.

UNC has won 8 ACC titles in a row.

Fun fact: Erin Matson is now in 2nd place in ACC titles among active coaches:

  1. Jennifer Averill WF: 4
  2. Erin Matson: UNC: 2
  3. Michele Madison UVA: 1
(Matson has only been coaching for 2 years, the other 2 have 50+ years combined)

At the half:
Richmond has no corners, no shots

Heels have 15 shots, 7 SOG, 5 goals, 5 corners

  • Bruder 1 G, 1 A
  • Anetsberger 2 A
  • Mendez 2 G, 1 A
  • Heck 2 G
  • Perrin 1 A
Needless to say, Heels are dominating

It is starting to get harder beating them though. Did we not scrimmage them before the season started? I do not like scrimmaging them before the season starts. I rather scrimmage somebody else instead.

I think they did scrimmage

Rest of the ACC was always going to catch up. We were just another level above everyone last year.
