UNC Volleyball 2025-2026

UNC is at risk of missing the tournament. The AVCA ranking mean nothing but publicity.
Only thing saving us is our KPI but it is not as heavy as the RPI is to the committee.
I feel like this team "got up" and played inspired ball ay home during the stretch of top 10 teams. After losing to Pitt 17-15, it is almost like we took a moral victory, made it to #15 in the rankings and then went on cruise control. the Stanford loss was whatever....playing at 10pm eastern, jet lag, etc. We crushed Cal and I thought we were back on track. But even at home against UVA and Va tech we allowed inferior teams to hang. FSU and Miami....we were served off the court. This UNC team can execute at a high level (top 15) when passing well, but when we cant pass, we look horrible. We picked a bad time to go through a slip in play.
During this stretch, our setting has been horrible. Berhendt has been outplayed by Cozza and does not seem to be herself. Pearce has not been productive either. Our middles have frequently been blocked by trap setting. Safi and Chelsea cannot carry the team.
It is pretty simple....lose to UVA and we will not make the tournament. beat UVA and lose to Miami and we are on the bubble. Win both and we are solidly in. I think the staff has done a great job, but the palyers have to execute. this is why you schedule tougher in NOnCOn.

Behrendt has been the third best setter on our roster since about the start of the second month of the season. Emily has been out for a while, but doubt Mike would bench Zoe since she’s a captain. She makes really poor decisions that puts our hitters in traps…
Zoe used to have a very stable serve. That even doesnt seem as solid.
I cannot tell you how frustrating it was ALL weekend to get behind 5 or 6 points, battle back and then we commit multiple service errors. Small fundamental issues are killing us.
Anecdotally, it seems service errors have been an issue all season; we were able to overcome them earlier, but they hurt worse against better competition.
They have dove into "serving tougher" this season, but it's failing... Mike has said numerous times he doesn't want 0 service errors because that means you're not serving tough enough... but when you have a career serving sub (who wasn't even good at that) in charge of serving in the game, I don't know what you expect. Carson rarely served in herself as a player... but she's in charge. Serving has been an issue all season.
Bottom line, we need to win. With that in mind, Mike will need to put the player in who can get the job done. Feelings might have to get hurt but we just lost 2 games in a row. Something has to be done. He could sit those players down and talk to them about the situation. I think these women are mature enough to handle and understand the situation that is at hand.

Were down 18-13 too so it was a good come back to put us up 2
Serving was not good enough to win, created almost no real pressure on their receivers.

Man, those last three matches were tough. I was hoping we would lose one but three to the Florida teams, Miami twice and FSU once. Someone stated that the serving was not good. This is a weakness that has been exposed. I thought we had brought in a good server this past year. Do we have one coming in next year. Coach will have to make some quick adjustments if we are in the tournament.
Heels one of the last four in and will head to Madison to play UTEP and they matchup with Wisconsin and Eastern Illinois.
