I think NDSU already took care of their obnoxious fan base.
I was old enough to remember them playing that season. The lore of the 1982 Wolfpack is almost an afterthought now. Us winning the National Championship is more likely then what they pulled off in 1982.
yeah, so, don't compare the huskers to one of the most infamous college basketball teams of all time, inspired by a coach who would die of cancer and have an entire foundation and week dedicated to him and raising money for cancer research. And it is not an afterthought.

Now... Not mid season 1982. Even the Championship game against Houston was expected to be a dunking exhibition the likes that had never been seen! Us beating Alabama for the trophy is more believable then the Wolfpack beating Phi Slama Jama.

Wrong again. I am not being emotional here in the sense of managing expectations. Why is it so hard to believe that someone on this board thinks OSU is a very, very good team and is most likely going to beat us soundly. That is my honest opinion based on an analysis of how both teams have played so far, the quality of athletes I see on the field, and the quality of their recruiting over the past five years. I am not managing expectations. I honestly think we are going to lose in Columbus.
If I turn out to be wrong... Look for me at a local bar celebrating my *** off.
And of course I hope we kick their ***. I am a rabid Husker fan. But do I think, honestly, that we will? No
And for the record I concur with the criticism on here of my comparison to 95 Nebraska. Premature by a long shot. I was trying to think of a team in my memory that appears to have no weaknesses at any position. And 95 NU came to mind. My bad. But that does not change my opinion of how good I think OSU is. I think they are damn good.
OSU is comparable to one of the really good Alabama and USC teams. We'll find out soon enough if they're one of the championship caliber teams or one of the teams that got beat in the championship game.

I can't believe I'm even responding to this...
We won our 1995 National Championship in 1996 and voted on in 1996. The game was even called the 1996 Fiesta Bowl. We call them the 95 Huskers. Everyone does. Basketball overlaps the 82-83 season When people talk about the 1982 North Carolina State Wolfpack everyone knows what is being talked about. That is except for you who's succeeding in being a big fat dick! Congratulations.

Nebraska won the 1995 National title in football
NC State didn't accomplish crap in 1992 - they lost in the first round of the tourney that year
the majority of a basketball team's games are played on or after Jan 1 of the year - we won the title in 1995 because all but one of the our games were played in 1995

They are much deeper, but where we are good to great, they aren't that much better, if at all. A well prepared NE team could and should absolutely compete with tOSU. Big testament to Riley and staff for the adjustments they've been able to make so far relative to the talent they have vs. what they've been used to.
I'm not quite on the Ohio State train like most are but that doesn't mean they aren't a top 5 team. I think they're beatable but you'll have to play to their level because they're far more consistent. If Nebraska showed up to play a full 4 quarters then they certainly could play with Ohio State but no way in hell are we counting on the 4th quarter to make a living on them. Their depth is superior and IMO that is the major difference. I'm not sold on Riley and the Nebraska staff at this point either because we just don't know how they'll turn out this early in but we do know that Urban Meyer will be on the other sideline so it's a very well coached team.
If we didn't beat ourselves and executed at a competitive level then we could be pretty damn good and would only lack quality depth IMO.

I could understand this sentiment if we were 3-2 or 2-3... but claiming that we beat ourselves and don't execute at a competitive level and yet we are 5-0... I guess we see things differently.
We're 5-0 against who? Maybe you think Saturdays performance will cut it against Wisconsin or Ohio State but I don't think it will. Our level of execution is not up to par with the teams you compete with for top place. My post was mainly about Ohio State and the level of play we need to beat teams like that.
I am thrilled this team is unbeaten. And I hope we kick the crap out of every team left on the schedule. With that said, might be wise to tap the brakes a tad. We just got done with a poor Illini team at home. A game in which we were trailing in the third quarter and on the verge of being knocked out until Tommy got horse-collared on a tackle that would have made us punt to them again during a time they had us completely on our heels and had all the momentum.

While it is true that this team does not quit on the field, and seems to find its footing late in games, I do not believe they are performing at a level that would allow them to go toe to toe with tOSU. Yet. I am hopeful we get there. But the defense in particular has a long way to go.
the Nebraska team didn't have to play well enough to beat Ohio St or Wisconsin, Indiana or Maryland. They only had to play well enough to beat Illinois. They did. I don't understand how or why someone want to compare how a team plays versus opponent A to how they MAY PLAY versus opponent B.
The Pittsburgh Steelers lost by 30 to Philadelphia a week later too the Chiefs to the woodshed. Indiana turned the ball over 5 times and lost to Wake Forest then a week later beat Michigan St. Too many variables, matchups, game conditions, mistakes, don't necessarily transfer week to week or game to game.
Thanks for the clarification, that's not how I read your initial post. Even the highest level of execution may not be good enough against Ohio State. Where we will learn more is with Wisconsin, Minnesota, maybe even Indiana and Iowa...
I guess we define "trashing our team" differently. Trashing would involve a constant and unmerited negativity, combined with over the top criticism, while avoiding the positive things. If you follow my posts then you would see that is not me at all.
I do not know why this is so hard for some on here to understand: I think OSU is a better team than Nebraska and will most likely beat us soundly in Columbus. You can disagree with me and make an argument as to why you think I am wrong. I respect that. That is why I come on here. But do not accuse me of trashing our team just because you disagree with me about OSU.

The crux of my discussion with the dude from Pennsylvania is that he proclaimed this year's OSU team as being one of the if not THE, the greatest team ever and that he is building this up to be some sort of monumental beat down.
I never implied Nebraska would win the game straight up. However, I am not yet willing to say Nebraska cannot win the game either. A lot of football to be played between now and November 5. I also said that Ohio State, over the past 4 seasons, have played close games against much less talented teams and lost games to less talented teams. If you want examples
2012 beat Purdue (6-7) 29-22 in OT at home
2013 beat Iowa (7-5) 34-24 at home, needing 10 4th qtr points to win
2014 lost to Va Tech (6-7) 35-21 at home
2015 beat Northern Illinois (8-6) 20-13 at home, beat Minnesota (6-7) 28-14 at home
Those are undisputed facts, not message board hyperbole, conjecture and expectation management.
I don't think anyone has argued that Nebraska has no chance to win this game .. you don't have to be the better team you only have to be the better team that day
but if push came to shove and everyone on here had to bet 2 months salary on the winner of this game (RedRover could offer up the number of cans he collects over a 2 month span) - everyone would vote with their wallet that OSU is going to win

How about you understand what he's saying because that's how it is with basketball. It's okay to be wrong about something; learn and move on. Basketball is always referenced with the second year of the school calendar. The 2016-2017 season will forever be referenced as 2017. The 2015-2016 will forever be referenced as 2016. Rinse, repeat.
Villanova beat North Carolina in the 2016 national title game therefore 'Nova win the title in 2016. Duke beat Wisconsin in the 2015 national title game therefore Duke won the title in 2016. So on and so on.

i hope you aren't his attorney because he flat out said Nebraska has no shot and that OSU would hang more than 40 and probably 50. He only hoped that Nebraska could win. Not quite the same as having a chance.
As far as betting two month's salary, I am sure you would have bet that same 2 month's figure on Michigan St beating Nebraska last year too. **** happens. Games are played. And as I said before a lot of football between now and 5 Nov 16.
And Riley has beaten the great USC teams while with less talent at Oregon State.
yes, if given a 100 opportunities to bet on the straight up winner between a top 10 team vs a team under .500 I would bet on the the top 10 team every time. I might lose 10 of those bets and walk away rich from the other 90. Others will continue to cite the exception rather than the rule and walk away broke.

I will respectfully ask if you absolutely has to bet 2 months salary on the winner of this game who would you say was going to win .... there is a reason why vegas has a point spread and I guarantee this game won't be a pickem
I will place a bet on my online service the morning of the game. I will not make that bet now because there are 4 weeks until that game is played. Things happen, injuries happen, losses happen. Anyone betting 2 month's salary a month outbis a moron. I made good money on the Oregon game betting on Nebraska when Nebraska was a home favorite, when folks like you were saying Oregon was going to win and you only hoped Nebraska could keep it close. They had too much speed. Etc.
First off, I acknowledged my hyperbole in comparing OSU to 95 NU. I admitted that was a bad comparison. So stop cherry picking my posts to make your point. I am on here to discuss football and not win debates, so I am always willing to walk back an exaggerated comment, which I did.
Second, I never said OSU was one of the greatest teams of all time. All I was trying to do was emphasize how really good I think they are. And I do think they are very, very good. I stupidly compared them to 95 Nebraska in order to emphasize that point. As I said, my bad. And if you weren't trying to win a debate and make me look bad, rather than just discuss football, you would have acknowledged my admission of exaggeration and said "ok, good. Now let's have a conversation."
Third... I never said we had "no shot" to win. I did say I think, based on my analysis of the two teams, that we are going to get blown out in that game. I stand by that prediction. I hope like hell I am wrong. I hope like hell that our days of getting blown out by superior teams are over. I hope like hell that we win. But I do think we are going to lose by a lot of points.
If you think I am wrong please discuss why you think so. I would be most happy to see some positive insights on our chances in that game. And please don't just say that there are always instances of superior teams losing to inferior ones on any given day. Of course there are. I hope this is one of them. But I still think they ARE the superior team. And unless it really is "one of those unlikely upsets" I think we lose. Please tell me why I am wrong in thinking that.
Finally, if you have read my comments in general about our team then you would also know that I am anything but a negative Nellie. I have been consistent in saying we will go 11-1 or 10-2. I have praised Riley and his staff and the direction we are headed. I am not, therefore, just one of those "NU is trash" fans. But I do think we will lose to OSU.
Talk to your attorney he is the one that brought all of this back up. I was done with the discussion. He decided to represent you and give out advice.
I will just add one more thing. I like this insight from rover. If anything gives me hope for that game it is that Riley has a history of doing more with less against superior teams.
After this season these words need to never be said again!!
