Biggest thing I remember is what an absolute embarrassing train wreck the football team was under that logo. The program needed a new face and identity by 2003. Mississippi State needed anything to separate itself from counterfeit bills, drugs, arrest, and the NCAA investigation.

The interlocking MSU on helmets and "STATE" across the chest would be great.
That logo belongs back in the 90's where it came from

Someone did these a mock up too using existing uniform design...
The second option would be an acceptable work in progress if it had block STATE instead of the

That logo is the best helmet logo that we’ve ever had. Period, 100%
That is a good looking uniform. We may suck, but we’d look good doing it.
When they brought it back two years ago against Kentucky I was hoping we would see it again. The marketing team nailed it and then poof. It was like a vapor.
Nobody outside of Mississippi State fans knows if that says MSU, SMU, USM, JSU, SUM, SJM, or any other possible combination. Clearly not a recognizable distinction from any other school and just downright yugly
Is Bama’s “A” for Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, or Alaska? I have trouble determining.
Or Atlanta? If you pass a random guy walking down the street in a red cap with an "A" on it you don't know which A they worship

The 86-95 logo does look better and I liked it. Especially in 1986. But the internet State fans always finding something to ***** about ... called it MSJ.
The 2014 uniform was based off the '96-'03 uniform but it wasn't exactly the same. The one worn against Kentucky was essentially identical except for the Adidas logo and the larger interlock on the sleeves.
How about we just field a competitive team, so that the fashion show is less significant?
Good luck with that. I wouldn't care if we wore 1979 Ford Truck green, just so long as we were competitive.
I've never thought the 1986-95 logo looked like MSJ. Why? Because I grew up associating it with Mississippi State football. I don't read it like a word or initials. That's the point of a logo: It immediately represents something bigger, in this case, a sports team. You don't have to "read" a logo. Just look at the Disney logo. You don't sit there and sound out the word Disney. You see it and immediately think of everything that you associate with Disney. Nobody thinks Disney should change their logo because the first letter doesn't look like a D.

Oh Lord, this again? We're trying to build a national brand as the STATE - when you say STATE you mean Mississippi State. But we want to go back to MSU which people associate with Michigan State nationally all because we had a few good seasons 30 years ago with that logo (and oh by the way some really terrible ones as well). Our AD dept must sit around and shake their heads when they read this stuff.
I'm of the completely opposite opinion. 96-03 logo is much bolder and crisper. 86-95 is too vertical and way too much white in the actual logo. I like it fine back then, but when the 96 logo came out I thought, wow this is so much better.
Thought we brought back commemorative uniforms for 98 Championship team that year? I could be wrong

This is so ignorant. I bet bama fans sure are glad they didn't change uniforms in the 90s when they had all their sh*t show going. When you have an awesome classic look that is universally (as much as a small market school like ours can be universally) liked by almost anyone that doesn't wear braided belts and carry a phone case on their hip, you don't go away from it for some dumba** reason like bad juju.
