Union vs Appo - let the talk begin

i seriously dought that bro... lol last yr only team around here that would have made a good game for appo would have been salem... but salems only loss came to amherst county... we went to there house and blitx them.... richlands team from 2 yrs a go was one hellva team and all we could do to come back at home on them in ot... i am not sure this yrs bears are as good as the 2015 blue tornado’s....
Or maybe this year's union is better than 15 Richlands and 15 Appomattox was just no where near as good as 16 Appomattox? That's my educated guess.
Union ran the same 3 or 4 plays all day against Graham, Mitchell off tackle for 3,4,5 yards at a pop, and it worked all day....What are they gonna do if Appo shuts that down? They have no passing game to go to. I hope it don’t happen, but I’m afraid Union’s winning streak is about to come to an end.
For Union to contain Graham's speed is impressive. Long ride from Appo to Big Stone Gap. Haven't seen Union play but when u get this far everybody is good. Glenvar kept game closer than what I expected. Good luck to both teams and safe travels to all.

That's not true at all. Union ran out of two different formations and ran several different plays. The longest plays of the day were jet sweeps by Owens, not Mitchell.
let me ask the union fans this..... whats the bst team you played so far this yr? and whats the best team you played in the last 3 seasons?
In 2015, Richlands was the best team we played. Glenvar had the best run D. Clarke Co was a bad matchup, but they were very good.
In 2016, Appo was the best O, D, and team in general.
This year, Richlands had the best D. Not even close to the others. The best overall team was probably Morristown West. Best passing attack was Letcher Co without question. Graham was the fastest.

IF they shut that down. We all know about that if word. Be careful about the no passing game. All you need to open up a game is 2 or 3 timely completions.

My biggest problem whenever I had to drive from Marion to Large Rock Pass on Rt. 58 was the farm tractors doing 15MPH at top end speed.
This Union team is very one dimensional. However, they execute very well. They remind me of the 95 Graham state championship team that won the state title and only threw 5 passes all season. Good execution and great defense.
I dont get into the score prediction thing... leave me out. I retract on what i said earlier about Union in another thread. I do feel now its gonna be a hard fought game. I think union coaches haves learned from last yr. i think they gonna bring something new to table. Hope mitchell plays with heart this year.
Thank you, 19GHS87, that has been our philosophy all season after losing starting QB. Next man up, and James Mitchell has been a team player all along the way. He is a team first player and a fine young man. Parents are a outstanding members of our community. But as you saw yesterday, he is not a lone wolf. We have talent and we strap the helmet on and hit you.

Union reminds me of Riverheads in 1A, what they do they do well. It will wear on a good defense and frustrates a team when it’s 3rd and 1 but can’t get off the field. I believe Unions big o line with be the difference in this game. Just my opinion and hope no one gets a rash.

I gave Union nothing but respect. I just know that kid is a better athlete that what he presented here in Appo last yr.

Of course not the same caliber of team as the past couple years, and that means quite a bit, but I didn't see some huge aura or toughest place to play feel when SD went down there several years ago. It was a great atmosphere and stadium, but not like terrible disadvantage. I think SD was 14 seed, Union 11 seed, and a LONG drive. SD won. The following year Union (or year before) Union made the trip up here
This isn't a jab at Union. Doesn't matter to me who wins. The folks from both games were great. It just didn't seem like a mthyical place. But was an amazing stadium. I really enjoyed the experience. Not the drive there and back though

Until I see this years version of Union, they will probably not be the best team in last 3 years and probably not best team this year. 4a Amherst in 2015-16, 2a buckingham 2015, 3a Rustburg 2015, richlands 2015, and heritage 2015-17 are all strong teams. Heritage team this year will probably be the hardest we will see this year but having said that union is right there and will be tough. So this group of guys know what a really good team looks like and the raiders will not get caught overlooking anyone. All 4 teams left are really good and this will be exciting semis and final.
That's true but it's better to be kind than right sometimes if you have to choose between the two.
Don't underestimate Union from last year's result and don't judge Appomattox on last year's result either. These are 2 different teams. Don't know much of Appo, but after seeing Union yesterday. They played one of the most fundamentally sound games in the playoffs that I have seen in quite a while. I've been watching football all over this great state of ours for 40+ years and their execution yesterday was outstanding. They are hard nosed, physical and Mitchell is very talented. I was very impressed with #17 as well. And the defense as a whole played outstanding. Appo had better be as good as advertised or they will be disappointed
Everyone on here that knows high school football should know that this is probably the two best teams in 2a this year , haven't seen union this year but been following them and see that there most Improvments from last year is there O line and D line . But I haven't heard where they have gotten any better any where else !!! If they haven't improved offensively then how do you think they can score ! Sweeps will not work .....dive plays will work until that is shut down and by draining the clock won't work , just don't see how they can out score Appo and that's what it will come down too .big lines just won't do it guys !!

19gh , they are as good , been totally impressed with this group of guys after losing 21 seniors last season how they have gotten better each week , the coachs have done a subperb job all season and they have that edge and no how to win , should be a great game !!
