Just got a call from my urologist and my kidney is functioning at 33%. Have an appt. Monday to discuss options. Any of you had any experience or know someone who has. I kind of worried thoughts and prayers are asking for again. OFC
Sorry to hear that Sky. Good luck sir.

Have a buddy who was born with some health issues. His mom donated a kidney to him while we were in college. He has to take meds the rest of his life, but is alive and (doing) well. My only experience with this kind of thing. I hope you get good news about options Monday.

Sky it's been awhile but I have a family member who went through something similar.

Sounds like Stage 3 kidney disease... maybe Stage 3b. Kidneys are moderately damaged and aren't functioning optimally. While there technically isn't a cure for kidney disease IIRC, at that stage it can be managed with dietary modifications, maintaining good blood pressure, and increased monitoring, among other things.

I'm not a doctor so please don't take this as gospel but you're kidneys shouldn't be failing, or not to the point where you'd need dialysis or a transplant. I can imagine the not knowing, so to speak, is certainly difficult, but I would think there are treatment options and behavior modification options that would make your overall prognosis quite encouraging.

The family member I alluded to is plugging along fine and has been for quite a few years now.

I hope this is helpful. We've never met but that certainly won't stop me from keeping you in my prayers.

Please keep us posted after your appointment on Monday. My best to you until then, and long after.

Both, or one? You can live perfectly fine with one health kidney. As always, talk to your doctor(s), write down your questions/con erns before your next conversation, and make sure they answer every question. Then get a second opinion. Please dont listen to us knuckleheads-other than well wishes and support. Good luck.

This echoes pretty much what I was gonna say.....wishing you the best and if you need a donor.....I would shy away from @DukeDenver!!'

Keep us posted...you know a lot of people here care about you

Sorry to hear that Sky. A friend of mine just had a kidney transplant a couple or so weeks ago after being on dialysis and waiting for a new kidney for about 6 years.

I'm very sorry to hear this, Sky. After reading further it looks like it's confined to only one kidney, so that part is some good news. You're in my prayers, my friend, and may God bless you, and guide the doctors to help manage this condition. Stay strong, and know that every single one us is here for you.

Sky,

I lost a kidney to cancer in 2010 and have never looked back. I’m living very well with only one kidney and have been told that a person can live with a small portion of one kidney. I dont even think of my self having only one kidney.

The key is finding the correct doctor. My surgery was performed with a small incision just below my navel. I was home recuperating the day after surgery.

If you’d like to talk, let me know via this board and I’ll make my email available to you.

Otherwise, good luck. I hope your surgery, if it comes down to that, is as successful as mine.
