Will we take 2 RB's and a FB in this class?

My two cents... we cannot take two running backs and a fullback in this class. If they decide to go heavy on wide receivers due to the number of blue chip players that are interested, then I don't think you can afford to put a fullback on scholarship. A scholarship fullback is more of a luxury, in my opinion.

That 5.42 forty time for an edge rusher makes me nervous. You can't teach speed and quickness.

Not certain but I think they may be recruiting Tilford as an athlete. Or maybe they take the first one to commit and shut it down. "Tilford is a pretty runner — long strides, like a track runner — but he's not a jitterbug. Is he a linebacker? A safety? A wideout? Tilford could actually be a running back at Nebraska, but he has the kind of athletic versatility that makes him capable of many positions."

I'd like to see us get more blue chip defensive lineman on the board and then get some of those guys to visit this fall!
I'd be content with DT's if we got JUCO Isaiah Johnson and HS DT Damion Daniels or Ben Hutch in addition to Deontre Thomas.

Would you care to expand on this a little more? Not sure who you are referring to...
He's talking about Porcher. He posted a SPARQ score of 61.98 at The Opening Regional in Orlando in February. That included a 5.42-second 40-yard dash, 4.66-second 20-yard shuttle, 35-foot kneeling powerball toss and 23.8-inch vertical jump.

Nothing against these guys, but I'd personally like the staff to aim a little higher.

Jay Tufele was on the radar at one point, let's get back in the race. Greg Rogers is another highly rated player we've offered who seems to be open to leaving his home state of Nevada. Noah Elliss is a prospect out of Littleton, CO that is within our 500 mile radius.

I realize it's easier said then done but I'd like to see the staff shoot for the moon like they have with some other positions. We are very weak at DT right now. This has got to be a major area of focus.

This staff doesn't seem to shy away from anybody when it comes to recruiting... do we know that they aren't pursuing these guys? I don't follow recruiting the way others do who know the ins and outs... have we stopped pursuing the guys you named here?

True, we are thin at DT, which is why I'd like to get a JUCO in his class, I'm not sure of the interest level of those you mentioned but remember we have a good one coming in next years class in Mapieu who is already a top 300 recruit in the nation for 2018. GBR

NU never went down to Oklahoma to see Johnson after his visit for the Spring Game, also it is rumored that NU wanted him to sit out this year, heal up from his ACL and be a 3-3 guy but he intends to play this year so this ship might be mutually sailing.

Daniels is WAY more likely than Hutch who likely won't leave the south but not sure NU is in the drivers seat for either.

ISAIAH JOHNSON, DL, 6-5, 300, NORTHEAST A&M JUCO. MIAMI, OKLAHOMA

“Nebraska’s spring game is the only one I went to.” Says Isaiah Johnson. “It was wonderful. The fans came out there and showed us some love, and the atmosphere was great. The players get along with one another and the coaches are great.” Johnson said

“When I got there I was shocked.” Johnson comments with a turnout of more than 70,000 fans at the spring game. “I didn’t know it was going to be that big. The whole stadium was filled. The fans showed so much love, they asked for my autograph 30 minutes before the game. All of us (recruits) were amazed how many people came out. We just looked around with a smile.”

NU defensive line coach Parrella wants Johnson to wear a Husker uniform and it appears that will become reality.

“He (John Parrella) wants me pretty bad. Every time I talk to him I get good vibes from him. When I get talking to him I can’t be dead, he wants me to be happy.” Johnson said

“He (Parrella) likes how I use my hands, I’m always around the football. I’m trying to get other things that I can improve on. Have him help me with my explosiveness to get to the ball. Make plays and fit right in.” Johnson said

Commitment date.

“I’m going to talk to my mom about it and coach Parrella will receive a call and tell him sometime in September.” Johnson said

Then there’s Nebraska.

“Coach (Mike) Riley, he likes all of my film. They are losing four inside guys by the time I get there. I can come in and play early, I just have to put in the work.” Hutch said

“Coach (John) Parrella says he likes me not just a player but my off the field attitude. We everyday on the phone. The way he talked to me he keeps me up on everything. They want me real bad.”

“Coaches at Nebraska are trying to get me up there for the first game, a night game on the 3rd (September). Everything should be settled Tuesday. My mom said she had to talk to the people at her job, but they will probably let her off.” Hutch said

Some visits confirmed.

“I know for sure I’m taking one (official) to Texas A&M, I don’t know what game and I’m taking one to Louisville versus Kentucky.” Hutch said

“Probably when I take all my officials in the fall. I think my last official will be in December. Then I will talk it over with my mom, and I’ll probably commit in January.”

These are the players who built Nebraska football.
We have 11 commits. RRTHusker said we are taking 23 or 24 this class. Name your last 12 or 13 you would like to get. My reasonable guesses would be 1 JUCO DT, Johnson, 1 or 2 HS DT's. Add another DE. Hutch and Damion Daniels, Jamari Peacock as our RB, Nathan Tilford as an athlete, Ben Miles as our FB. Out of the 3 top WR's left on our board I think we get Tyjon Lindsey and maybe Joseph Lewis, tough to pull out of Cali but our WR's coach can pull it off, lose Jamire Calvin to Notre Dame. 1 out of those 3 to combo with Key and Mcquitty still a great WR class. 2 incredible. Darnay Holmes I think joins his boys in the Calibraska movement. Rayhme Johnson picks us. Jaylen Kelly Powell and the TE Reese Leitao from Oklahoma to round out this stellar class. Take your best guesses Husker nation.

Can Isaiah Johnson actually PLAY in 2016 if we get him? Or does he have to sit out a year?

I think of the above players you listed, we get:

- Isaiah Johnson, DT
- Ben Miles, FB
- 1 more DT and one more DE (basically two more defensive linemen)
- 1 more offensive lineman
- I think we get Lewis and Calvin, I don't think we get Lindsey. But yes, no matter who else we get at WR, this is an incredible WR class.
- I think we have a great shot at Jamari Peacock as our RB.
- I think we get Rayhme Johnson for LB.

Im not sure about the rest.

I am glad coach Riley is going for a scholarship fullback. I think in a true pro style offense it is a very important position.

If we get Lewis, Lindsey, Powell and Holmes........look out!!!!!!! WR & DB positions would be killer. Crazy competition in practice! 3-5* though...... probably won't happen.

If you guys land JKP it would be one of the bigger coups in recruiting that I can remember. There is a reason that 247's crystal balls are 94% Michigan. A coach from a rival school even screamed out "why don't you just commit to Michigan already" while JKP was doing an interview at SMSB. But its recruiting where anything can happen and he did seem to speak highly of your recent camp...so good luck.

If I recall correctly Roy Helu came out of high school with a 4.8 40 time listed by Rivals when he committed to NU. He was closer to 4.4-4.5 from the day he hit campus. Too many variables even if that's what he ran at a camp. Was he stiff and sore from running drills? Was he nursing a hamstring? Was he just not good at his starts? Way too many variables and the kid has great film.

That 5.42 forty time for an edge rusher makes me nervous. You can't teach speed and quickness.

I'm not saying there is no reason for concern, but you can't take a single time and draw a conclusion from it until you compare it the others that were there (and it helps to know the surface type). Click on the above and you can sort it by position (and other categories). Over 30 DL's were there and only 7 ran sub 5 seconds. His shuttle run time is very respectable compared to his peers.

Your list looks pretty good. I don't have any guesses and hadn't super followed recruiting this year, so I don't want to take too many potshots at your list.

Was thinking Isaiah Johnson would commit after the spring game, but that hasn't happened (player himself, coaches, eligibility ?) Kind of the same with Rayhme Johnson, seems like he could've pulled the trigger quite awhile ago. Did Janovich's success influence us into thinking we need to take a 210 lb FB out of high school? I just don't see it. Would be great to get Peacock and Tilford. I'd like to see us land Lewis and another as tall or taller WR. DB's, looking like we have quite a few good guys interested, we just need to make sure we are good on our numbers.

I totally think we should get Ben Miles and build his *** up to be a great option at fullback. I too wonder about Rayhme Johnson (I thought the word was, he really wanted to play with Demmodore Lenoir, so I think we may lose him to Oregon). I honestly just want to see us grab 1 more great LB, 1 great RB, 1 or 2 more DB's (though honestly, with the recruiting we've been doing, we will be SOLID on DB's for a while), and hopefully a 5 star receiver in either Holmes or Lewis (or both). That leaves plenty of room (6 or 7 open scholarship slots) for a mix of defensive line recruits and other elite "athletes" like Tilford.
