Sumbitch! We didn't fumble in the endzone that time! Nice second half effort. They need to feed these guys expressos and red bull before they start a game I guess.

but I'm glad I took this Friday off. This second half has been fun as hell.

Question about the Findley yellow card: Can they review those after the game like they do technical fouls in basketball such that they might lift the automatic suspension from next game? That call in the first half was awful and it may have cost us a goal.

What the hell? They missed a blatant bear hug on Bradley and then call on foul or offside on what exactly? What a horrible call.

apparently offside on the US player at the bottom of the screen (DeMerit? Bradley?). I haven't seen enough replays and have the sound turned off at work, so I can't really comment too much on it. The goal-scorer was certainly NOT offside. Ok, just saw the replay again... looks like a bad call to me (still have sound turned off, so couldn't hear what the announcers said).

From Mike & Mike this morning - their population isabout 2-million people compare to the US that is over 100x that size. Heck, that's smaller than Mississippi. Could you imagine pulling together ateam from ourstate that could compete with the best our country has to offer? That's basically what these guys have done.

announcers are pretty much just talking about how pitiful the refs have been today, and how they didn't see a foul on that play or like you said an offside.

We have to beat Algeria now... preferably by more than 2 goals, to control our own destiny and make it through.

Wouldn't just a win by 2 goals do it?

Assuming England wins today, then they and Slo have 4. We have 2.

Beat Algeria, we have 5. Which means we finish second IF there is a winner b/w Slo and Eng.

IF they draw, then Slo's goal differential cannot be greater than 1 (two ties and a 1-0 win). A two goal win gives us a goal diff of 2 so goodbye Slo. We might even finish first depending on the score this afternoon?

My head hurts but I think that is right.

Lose or draw and we are done.

Terrible start. Great finish. Terrible ref. The Edu call will justly get the focus but he was bad all day long and mostly against us.

We have to beat Algeria. Worst case if we beat them I think we could be looking at a 3 way tie at 5 points. Slovenia would only be +1 in that case which is also the worst we would be with a win. Win by 2 and we're through on GD.

what tie breaker do they use after GD? lets say all 3 teams beat Algeria 1-0 and draw the other matches. everyone sits at 5 points with +1 GD. who moves on?

Best case scenario going into the third game would be if Algeria somehow pulled off a shocker and won. Then it would look like this

Slovenia 4
Algeria 3
USA 2
Eng 1

Then if we beat Algeria and England beats Slovenia, we win the group and 2nd goes to tie breakers between England and Slovenia.
If we won and Slovenia won, they win the group and we come in 2nd.

England/Algeria tie

Slovenia 4
USA 2
Eng 2
Algeria 1

Everyone is still alive in the group. It would be win and you are in for us and England. Could be some tie breakers based on all the games.

Bottom line- if we can't beat Algeria, we don't deserve to advance. We should have got the 3 points from today, bet we didn't. Learn to keep a clean sheet

Goals scored
then goal differential between the 3 tied teams
then goals scored in the games between the 3 tied teams

Edit- found the FIFA rule book

The ranking of each team in each group will be determined as follows:

a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings will be determined as follows:
d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.

You're right. I should have said "by two or more goals". We have to have the win, although technically, there is still a chance (albeit a slim one) that we could make it through with a draw. Every game from here on out would have to be a draw. Slovenia would go through with 5, and we tie England with 3 and have to win some of the tiebreakers to make it through. Total goals, I think would be the next tie break because if the US and England tie all their games, by definition, the goal differential would be 0 for both teams. Not a likely scenario, though.

What a contrast in halves, eh? I though the first half was one of the worst we have played in a while, but the second was one of the best. Still pissed about the ref calling off that third goal... we should have 4 points right now.

I don't want to win the group. Ghana looks to be the #1 seed from their group so being #2 is setting up nicely.

What the 17ing 17 17 17 was that 17ing 17 17. 17ing ref.

*Terrible first half. We deserved to be down by 2.

*Incredible shot by Donovan. I didn't know an American could make a shot like that. Hell of a goal and about time our "best" player put one in the net. His first WC goal since 2002.

*Great equalizer from Bradley. He comes through again.

*17ing 17 ref. That was a 17ing goal for 17s sake. Still haven't heard an explanation for that, or even an attempt at an explanation. 17.

We should have had the 3 points, even after that disastrous first half. Looks like a win by 2 over Algeria should do it. No reason we can't do that. But there was no reason we shouldn't have won this game and look at how we played today.

While I certainly agree with that, I might would rather play Algeria when they have nothing to play for. They're even still alive with a draw. If they lose, they're out. Of course, that means we'd have to beat them by 2 to ensure we advance (assuming SLO-ENG ends in a draw...if there's a winner in that one, a win gets us in). But I think I'd rather take my chances needing to beat Algeria by 2 in a meaningless game for them than to have to beat them (even by a single goal) when they have something to play for.

It would be nice to know a win gets us in, though, regardless of score. That happens with an ENG-ALG draw.

It's a tough one....

Donovan had an amazing game today. Should have had an assist to go along with his amazing goal. He also delivered the long ball that Altidore headed to Bradley for the equalizer. Donovan really showed today why he is America's most talented player perhaps ever.
