But at least stuff like this won't happen to me. Then again, a hundred pounds wouldn't do much damage anyways.

I don't care how much or how little you lift, you shouldn't lift more than you can manage with very good form. And since your form is going to break down a long time before a bar slips out of your hands, this guy was way out of bounds on this. Shoulda never happened.

...unless its a lot more innocent than that - like trying to adjust his grip before he started a rep.

I think the story is that one side of the bar missed the rack when he finished his set. Just seems like a freak accident. I'm happy to hear he is going to make a full recovery

It's not unusual to see college athletes that have no clue how to lift. I've seen guys in the gym before that played college sports, but had horrible form. I'm like - did nobody teach these guys how to lift? I've got better form & I just do it to stay half way in shape.

I wouldn't be suprised if he was bouncing the bar off his chest trying to get that last rep in or something stupid like that. Probably also using an open grip... which I just don't understand, especially with that kind of weight on there.</p>

Poor form, too much weight, bouncing the bar and probably an open grip.

If he'd missed the rack it would have hit him in the forehead and killed him. I wonder if he was being spotted.

but that doesn't matter.

No human is fast enough, or strong enough to catch 275 pounds if it came out of his hand.

I think this was just a freak accident.

And having a trainer so close probably saved his life. Still... if I was a USC fan I'd want to (though, maybe not be entitled to) know a little more about how that happened.

"We're fortunate he was being spotted." Well what the hell were they doing?
