Because it’s probably going to be a good RPI game for us?

Not this again. We should be playing USM home & home every year.
Why? We are subsidizing their program and they are no where near on our level to demand a 1 for 1 agreement.

Again, they benefit from playing us more than we benefit from playing them. Make them play us where we stipulate.

They may sell 1,000 more tickets to that game than to any random weeknight opponent. It’s peanuts.

Because it’s a Top 25-30 program nationally that’s three hours south of us and we’d be dumb to not play them at least once or twice a year. And it’s beneficial to our resume to play at least one of those games on the road.

You can’t view baseball through a football lens. We are playing a true road game at Samford this year. The year we won a national title, we played a true road game at The Citadel.

They are absolutely NOT an historic Top 30 team. They have never even won a game in Omaha. We should not be giving this program a 1 and 1 at Pete Trailer Park.

Does it matter that they weren’t good 30 years ago? They’ve sure as heck been good for the last decade. 40+ wins every year since 2016, hosted multiple Regionals and a couple of Supers. All this under two different coaches too, and not even the coach that took them to Omaha in 2009. They’ve absolutely been a Top 25-30 program in recent history. It’s not even really much of a debate.

You will not find many State fans who dislike USM more than I do, but it’s just dumb to not acknowledge that baseball is the one thing they do well.

Their next 3 Tuesday nights are hosting Bama, State, and Ole Miss. They are legit. In fact, the probably should have a few more Omaha trips than just the 1.

Ok. Now answer my question. What is our benefit for scheduling a 1 for 1 with Mississippi Southern?

This goes for any sport
It’s a good RPI game & a good rivalry game. We’ll also sell more tickets vs USM than vs a SWAC team. They’re no threat to us. At all.

They were a little unlucky on their Super draw a couple of years ago with it being Tennessee. And even then had a chance to win that Super. Think they won the first game and had a lead in Game 2 before it fell apart.

I’m still pissed at them about the year they let Ole Miss skunk them twice in a Super. The one time I’ve cheered for them in the potseason and they could not score a single run in 18 innings in their own park.

I get what you’re saying but there’s not really any public ‘perception’ hit by playing them in anything but football. And nowadays I’m not sure that’s still a big deal either, they don’t see to be a threat to us there even when we suck (this year for example).

Going forward I wish they’d mandate P4 playing regional instate G6 teams. Good for the game in general.

They are a good team but not better than us so we should get a good game that we win.
Its on the road, but not very far so it helps our RPI with a short drive.
We get more exposure in south MS to recruits.
Fans in south MS can see us.
They are a top 20-25 team so they are will within the 1 for 1 "demand range".

Great points. I’d rather play USM five times in Hattiesburg than play any SWAC games at home or a neutral site. Far, far more beneficial to play them than Alcorn, Valley, North Alabama, UT Martin, and so on.

They lost twice in that tournament and are 4-3 dumbass. Two of those three loses are unranked losses. Plus you can't spell, dumbass, dumbass.
Like I said, they aren't what they used to be since that conference came apart.
