The SEC will never learn. They are trash basketball outside UK. Coaches come here hoping, leave with a tail between their legs.

I cannot think of one coach who went to a better place after leaving an SEC school.

Maybe too quick. He recruited better than previous Vandy coaches. This season was lost because Garland got hurt, which was not the coach’s fault. His family is respected in basketball circles. The way this was handled will send a negative message to other coaches interested in the job.
Dude he went 0-18. That’s freaking pathetic. Last team to do that was Georgia tech in 56’

I kind of feel bad for him. His team quit on him the day the refs stole the UT game from them.

Vandy is a hard job. Academics limit recruiting. Fans expect to be competitive. Reality is 2 bad years, one above average year, and one good year every 4 years is Vandy’s max potential.

Maybe the AD knows Simi is out the door and maybe Nesmith also.
They have a couple of top 100 recruits but I see no way they won't be picked last or very close to it preseason.
Can't see his record drastically improving any time soon and the AD probably couldnt either.

From ESPN

Drew landed an elite recruiting class in 2018, led by five-stars Darius Garland and Simi Shittu, but Garland -- a likely top-10 pick in June's NBA draft -- suffered a season-ending meniscus injury in November. Vanderbilt was 4-0 with Garland fully healthy and 5-23 without him.

Prior to taking over at Vanderbilt, Drew coached Valparaiso for five seasons, winning four regular-season Horizon League championships and making two NCAA tournament appearances

so the guy can coach in the Horizon League. They beat Arizona St, MTSU, Tenn St and UNC Asheville with Garland.pretty convincingly, while losing to Kansas St by 11.

Then the world fell in..

Yeah. But it’s Vandy. You’re a wonderful academic school. If you expect to compete on the level with UK and Florida while you are a smallish private school you’re kinda delusional. Only private school that truly competes on a national level consistently is Duke. And that’s only in basketball and only because of K.
did you say because of K or because of PAY ?

I know he went 0-for in the SEC this year. But I thought since they had a new AD, he'd let him have one more year and see what happens.

Vanderbilt really thinks more of itself than what it really is. Vandy has 10 all-time NCAA Tournament wins. 10! Or what we have in the past 5 years. This is not some basketball factor; this is an academic school who generally does things the right way.

Hearing Shittu to UK next year. Gives us a big we need that is not just tall and skinny. Hope they let him play right away since coach got fired.

Seriously doubt it.
If true, he would have to pull a Justin Fields and claim someone at Vandy hurt his feelings and he's traumatized by it.

How 'bout this snarky tweet from UNCcheat apologist and Dook slurper Bilas?
Saw a tweet asking Jay where this vitriol was for 0-18 Stallings at Pitt last year. I'm sure the absence of outrage had nothing to do with legendary Duke bag man Jeff Capel taking over

Will Bryce invite the SEC Network, ESPN, and any other media outlet into the team meeting to see him talk to the guys? I've never seen a coach do this every single time prior to playing UK and lose each game.....so he didn't even win the odds which would be eventually your "Win one for the Drew-ster" speech would hit home.

It's why you make it about the players and not about yourself. End up looking like a goober.

I’m a bit surprised despite their epically bad year. I wonder if the powers that be didn’t like him recruiting OaD’s.

I think it was more about the 0-18 SEC regular season (and 0-19 if you count the tournament). You just can't put up that mark against all the other teams in the freakin' league and avoid scrutiny, injuries or no injuries.
