Ole Miss must have an indoor reporter practice facility. His wife is gonna hate living in Oxford. Trust me it sucks balls.

As good as his coverage was, his insistence to search for secondary violations and facebook mud offset his more legitimate reporting.

Hell, I cannot find one negative about Veazey and hate to see him go. The new age beat writer's may be interchangeable and we will get the same level/quality of coverage...time will tell.

So, you C-L conspirary theorists, tell me this. What does OM getting our beat writer say? Does the C-L like OM better since they got Veazey or do they like MSU better since we do not have to put up with Veazey anymore?

We need an MSU grad on that beat. An MSU grad with journalistic integrity who will report news when it arises and not sweep things under the rug like so many want to happen when we do something stupid. That would confound the C-L conspiracy theorists.

He did a very good job of providing a lot of content, plus with facebook, twitter etc...

But god forbid an Ole Miss athelete get a DUI/altercation/arrest. He could generate 20 stories about the exact same incident, then 20 follow up stories, then 20 'looking back' stories! The year Mike Brown went all Wild West on campus I don't think a week went by when that incident was not woven into some story.

This is all a Clarion Liar / $*** plot to hush the "lost ride" story Veasy was obviously writing as leverage to go back to cover his one true love. Open your eyes people!!!!

or right. Will Veazey report their dirty laundrywith the same gusto as ours? Or will it be business as normal at the CL where most of their bad news is scooped by the Commercial Appeal?

think the positions of "newspaper beat writer" and "university PR spokesperson" should be interchangeable, and look fondly to Fayetteville where that is pretty much the case.

job to cover them.

Why switch? It really doesn't make sense. If he were switching papers to cover them i might could see it. Maybe it would be better pay. Maybe better working life. Something.
What does he gain by switching?

Where in the hell has that idiot been lately anyway? All good news coming out of MSU, so nothing for him to weigh in on I guess.

The C-L likes to rotate beat writers every few years. With Brandt leaving and with Veazey having a few years at MSU, I'm sure they figured this was a good time to rotate. Saves them 1/2 the moving cost of a regular rotation.

Didn't Ian Rappoport leave just prior to football season whatever, and Wallace took his place on an interim basis. That's my only complaint about it - the timing. Takes a new beat reporter some time to find his footing and it is happening, by C-L choice, just before the season starts.

was about to go to the OM beat in the near future and now that Brandt is leaving - it kind of forced the CL's hand on it to go ahead and move him. It's probably much easier to hire a guy who has a 5 year stay coming to him than someone who has a few month stay and then moving from one SEC town to another.

The C-L has no control over when a reporter quits. And if it's already your policy to rotate beat writers every few years (which I think is a good policy), then it makes good business sense for them to go ahead and transfer Veazey to Oxford and hire a new guy in Starkville.

Just an observation that at the time of year when we are most thirsting for news, we're now possibly going to have to break in a new kid on the block. Wallace did a fine job I thought. Hated to see him go. I think Kyle will do very well very quickly at UM because he's been at State for three years (not because he is a UM grad) and surely knows their coaches and administrators from his coverage of MSU. If our new writer is someone who knows the state and has contacts, he'll do well quickly too. If we hire the North Texas Mean Green beat writer to move to Jackson or the Akron Zips beat writer, it'll take him a little while to adjust. That's all I'm saying. No conspiracy.

Once the rumor surfaced on SPS, KV would not acknowledge anyone that asked him about it. <div>
</div><div>
</div><div>I'm curious as to why Mississippi doesn't get the new reporter? They are the one losing Brandt, should be them getting the new guy.</div><div>
</div><div>
</div><div>I should add - when we lost Rappaport, we got the new guy, not Mississippi.

So if Veazey had been leaving would we have gotten Brandt?

Also, i looking forward to seeing how much negative reporting VZ does at Ole Miss. I don't think there is a conspiracy, but i personally believe VZ is an Ole Miss fan.

Do we know yet who our new <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">scapegoat/OMhomer/evilpawnoftheCLempire</span> beat writer is going to be?

*edited to add: please read this with the intended sarcasm, because if you think VZ had an agenda against us or for OM, then I think your an dubmass.

I have no idea if he's any good or not, but he does work for a Gannett newspaper at the Hattiesburg American.

I promise you one thing: KV had a choice in this matter (OK, TWO THINGS), and the CL didn't decide if he was moving. Gannett did. Once the opening came open, Gannett takes applications--KV had to apply for this position. I for one cant say that I blame him, who wouldn't want to move back to their college town and cover the team that they (most likely) love? I know I would.
