Mentioned it as they get ready to kick off SEC championship game - he seems a bit choked up. Hopefully CBS steals another good ESPN play by play guy in an effort to kill the beast.

Verne is definitely one of my favorite college football commentators. Kind of like Keith Jackson, he will be missed.

Not to hijack the thread, but nice opening drive by Florida.

I like Verne too. He's just one of those guys who sounds right on a Saturday afternoon. I also like Brad Nessler, but otherwise the college FB play-by-play guys leave a lot to be desired.

My favorites have been Keith Jackson, Lindsy Nelson, Chris Shankel and I can't think of his name who worked for ESPN college and Pro who passed away?

Anyone help me out there.

Crazy game so far. Alabama up 16-9, and doesn't have a first down.

Verne was solid. Keith best, Chris Shankle was good but I hate ND, dick Enberg solid for CFB.

Most people don't know this but Verne Lundquist had a connection to Omaha and spent a fair amount of time here too. His father (who passed away several years ago) was the lead minister at one of the Lutheran churches here in Omaha.
