Very interesting article on Jared Lorenzen

I was in the office when this article came out. A lot of the guys from the northeast or wherever who don't follow college sports at all were laughing about how a 300 lbs man could play QB, and I had to explain to them that statistically he's one of the greatest QB's in a conference stacked with all-time types.
Just think what he could have done if he was in shape. Or even close to it.

I remember UK coming to Scott Field in 99 - we won that game on a TH night to go to 7-0. During pregame warmups, while just the kickers were out (and the offenses and defenses were still in the locker room), I happened to notice a big dude in sweats grab a football around midfield. He then proceeded to get down on his knees at the 50, and absolutely launch a ball, left-handed, to the guy in the end zone catching punts. It was incredible. That was Lorenzen's redshirt year.

I remember playing them in 2003 in Lexington and they ran what I would describe as a play-action QB draw play. Lorenzen faked the handoff to the RB and then, because he was huge, just stood there with the ball in his hand behind his back while everybody went after the RB. It nearly worked, but I think he held onto it just a hair too long before taking off. I specifically remember standing in the MSU section where we were behind him and could all clearly see that he still had the ball, screaming and pointing at him.
Lorenzen is a freak of nature
There's no way somebody that huge should be able to move as well as he did. He had some really quick, nimble feet not just for someone his size, but for anyone, period. He could dance around in the pocket and make people miss, not to mention it took about three people to bring him down. He is probably one of the most unique quarterbacks to ever play college football.
