One man could coach, knows he could coach, & knows he has strong legs to stand on. The other man, I guess in his mind believes he did a good job, but knows he has no leg to stand on.

Me thinks, Croom was promissed the world by LT, & Byrne just took it back. I also wonder (& am thankfull that we have not) when LT will have something to say. I think LT knows that if he opens his mouth, he might get run out on a rail.

Anyway, Croom you did your best, & it just wasn't good enough, thanks for the positive things you did. Maybe, you should reflect on how when YOU are given a great opportunity, you should not let stubbornness & pride get in the way.</p>

Croom was never comfortable as a head coach. At least not as a HC anywhere other than his beloved Bama. He didn't want to make the tough decisions that a HC has to make, he didn't like receiving the criticisms that accompany being a HC, and always seemed to be in a defensive posture and not, IMO, truly confident of his capabilities of running a major college football program. I personally think he will slink back to an obscure assistant coaching job in the NFL where he is much more comfortable and we won't hear much about him anymore. To hear him speak, he is an inspiring individual, but he doesn't seem to be able to translate that into managing all the details you have to to be a successful head football coach. Its definitely not an easy job and not for the faint of heart.

I have thought all along that he really didn't want the job except maybe at Bama. If he goes somewhere as a coordinator or takes a DI-AA or DII job, it might show he really wants to be a headcoach. I just see him going back to the NFL as an assistant and riding it out till retirement. I don't think he had the real desire that good headcoaches have.

Yep, he was fired because the racist fanbase of MS couldn't get past his skin color. Nevermind the tons of fans wearing "Maroon is all that matters" shirts at the first home game, and really a lot of people have in every game since. Nevermind people cheering Croom when he won his first game. Nevermind people cheering for Croom when he won the Egg Bowl in his second year. Nevermind people being ecstatic over the 8-5 season last year. Nevermind people talking non-stop about his character and hoping he would succeed. Nevermind his 21-38 record, 10-30 SEC record, which culminated in a 45-0 beatdown in Oxford that could have been much worse. Nevermind his stubborness to change anything related to his program. Nevermind his hostility towards the fanbase despite their support of him. Nevermind all those factors, we fired him because of race. Glad you enlightened us to this fact.

that would have been willing to give Croom one more year with some staff changes had our AD seen it that way (though I don't think it would have made a difference in the final outcome), but can you explain how the poor results of having 4 wins or less in 4 of his 5 seasons here has anything to do with race? Results are what got him canned and that has nothing to do with his race.

I don't think it will be long before Crooms makes a statement... Maybe ESPN or some random interview... But the problem is, If ESPN interviews him they are going to be more concerned with the fact that there are only 2 African American coaches left at Major schools...

Even when they made the announcement on Saturday they weren't really talking about how it affects MSU... it was more a race thing they were concerned about.

that the spelling out of "Croom" by the MSU band before the Liberty Bowl was really just a little TOO much. I sort of cringed when they did that. That might be something you would do for a guy like Paterno when you know he's retiring or something, not for a guy that in his 4th year took you to 7 wins.

He was fired because the offense was steadily getting worse each year he was coach. He refused to make changes. He might have kept his job longer than a white man. We probably gave him more time because he was black.

If I were I would keep my statement to myself, because you may be the only person in the MSU fan base not happy with Croom being fired. Some people really surprise me on how they really saw the program moving forward with Croom. Let me tell in that game last week we averaged inches in offensive playes, let me repeat INCHES. Croom was the second worse hire in the SEC the last 20 years, Rocky looked like Knute Rockne compared to Croom.

uhhh, my post topic had nothing to do w/ race

it had to do w/ 2 coaches in the same conference being relieved of their coaching privileges, & those actual coaches responses to their respective situations.

but, concerning your ignorant response

if we as MSU alumni, fans, supporters showed anything through the tenure of Croom, we showed an overwhelming support of this man, even though he refused it at times, & publically challenged it..........all of MSU stepped in behind this man.

& I can't blame him on this, I think we are not hearing from it b/c most all questions that would be asked of him would lead back to him publicly having to admit that he didn't / couldn't do the job, or he would be placed having to defend his coaching staff.
