The reaction I’m seeing has been positive. I’m not sold. But, it is guys like him who get fired by a head coach when things start going south. Smart move on his part.

I’ll trust Brohm. And if this is a zinger to UK, all the better.

This started several years ago, back when Jeff was at Purdue, long before Jeff was hired here. I remember sources telling me that Vince was seriously considering leaving UK, based primarily on his strong relationship with Jeff. Some will suggest it is tied to Stoops loss of fan support and UK’s rather recent & rapid decline in football fortunes, but I believe these are two separate situations that are just percolating at the same time.

Make no mistake, this is huge development that will be a significant boost to the UL Football Program.

Shots fired, I guess.

This looks like a plus move by Brohm. We supposedly don't have to pay Marrow's exorbitant buyout, which is Satterfield-to-UC level leveraging. I'd think UK is actually happy to get Marrow off their books as he looked ridiculously overpaid to me and if you believe the Nick Roush's of the World his responsibilities and authority have been cutback--so why pay 1.3 million for less productivity? Just on a personnel level Marrow reputedly brings elements of what Deion was doing in his capacity as a liaison/Big Brother figure for players and Staff. A lot of course is made of his connections throughout Ohio having come from Youngstown like the entire Stoops clan and it producing players like Benny Snell and Lynn Bowden--who had a careers worth of yards vs. us--but I'll be interested to see if he puts us in play in Detroit but doubt he does. It's where UK got Deondre Buford and more recently Deone Walker and Max Hairston. But the Detroit pipeline looks like it withered when NIL came along and it may be anecdotal but...I doubt it if you get what I'm implying. Justin Rogers signed back in 2019 after officials and multiple unofficials to Michigan, official visits to Alabama and Georgia and every bit as importantly Tennessee back when Jeremy Pruitt was handing money out in paper bags...and he goes to Kentucky? You tell me how that happens pre-NIL. I'm not saying, I'm just sayin'.

Mark Blankenbaker has one less foil to follow on Twitter and can devote his full attention to Greg Sankey. Ethan Moore's sidekick on LSR on Wednesday nights gets to start the show kicking sand in any UK listener's face by drawling "It Just Maains More Paawwll". We get to hear recordings of James Streble's rants which I had the privilege of listening to from 4:55 to 6:10 as the news was breaking and it may be worthy of whatever is an Emmy award for whatever is the category for Dramatic and Theatric Rendering of a local Sports Event, and what for the rank-and-file Card fan the pure Schadenfreudic pleasure of tuning into Matt Jones' emergency podcast with 5000 other people. I found it instructive which I will give Jones credit for where someone matter of factly pointed out that Marrow and Joe Kraft are very close and Jones didn't spin at all the possibility of Kraft pulling resources from the football program because of it. There have been fissures over in Lexington that this widens. Either way, if it's less a resource we now have and more a resource that UK now doesn't, so be it. That's how College Football at it's upper echelons operates. In Football Rivalries--especially in the South--you're either the Bug or you're the Windshield.

Rowland tweeted it's a 3-year deal at 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, plus 30% of the donations. I don't know if it's all donations or those who he can add to what you're already getting.

College Football recruiting is uniquely different from that of College Basketball. While both are definitely influenced by the success (or lack thereof) from NIL and the Portal, the differential in the roster numbers alone makes it necessary for Football recruiting to identify potential talent that can contribute beyond those 3, 4 and 5 Star kids that attract so much attention. Morrow is recognized as having the capacity to do that as effectively as anyone in America.

Stoops has received a lot of credit for the ability of UK Football to raise its position within the SEC, before this more recent decline. However, those years of improvement, and even these last two years of disappointment; UK’s roster has been filled with talented depth, which explains their more competitive position inside the SEC. Most of those close to UK’s football program credit Morrow, and not Stoops for being able to identify and attract kids capable of playing at that level, despite not all of those players being recognized as highly coveted.

Jeff’s decision to continue pursuing Morrow at such a significant cost in light of the advent of NIL and the Portal is no accident; it is predicated on the confidence this ROI will be more than justified by the value Vince will bring to UL football.
