That is an absolutely horrible article. It doesn't give any details. Does it bind the University at all? Why even write that?

Isn't everyone using binding contracts with athletes. Problem with a "binding contract" is one thing I remember from Judge Eshee's Business Law Class is you can't enforce specific performance. So you can bind a player to a contract, but you can't force him to play. You can withhold his pay and/or collect damages or a buyout depending on how the contract is worded.
