Anyone know if they are going to start doing it on a weekly basis? They started doing previews of the preseason top 10, but never finished them. They did show the complete preseason top 10, but now we are going into week 4 and nothing since then. I know ultimately games are won and lost on the field, but it still makes for good talking points.

Not that it matters but here is mine

1. Riverheads
2. Galax
3. Rappahanock
4. PHGS
5. Essex
5.Wm Campbell
7.W&L
8.Narrows
8. Northumberland
10. GW

Just outside looking in; Colonial Beach, Chilhowie, Sussex, Grundy, and Altavista.

Rambling thoughts;
  • Lots of football left but the W&L-Rapp game will start to give clarity to the region A landscape. If W&L comes out and is able to pull the mild upset then the rest of the region better be on notice. All indications are that Rapp should win a fairly close game, might be worth the 3 hour trip for me to see this one.
  • CB and Sussex is another battle to see who else is truly in the discussion this year for a deep playoff run.
  • Franklin and Essex will be a good test to see if the young Broncos are ready to step into the playoff picture. Essex is being overlooked by some again this year even though we all know they are perineal contenders.
  • William Campbell has Lord Botetourt this week and should certainly be able to compete but Botetourt is a high quality 3A program that should win by a few scores. It would be huge for WC to win but there would be no shame in a loss here and will go a long ways to prepare this team for the stretch run to the playoffs.
  • Galax has Rural Retreat and should win with relative ease. This game is about refining what Galax is doing and making it through healthy.
  • GW is playing Carroll County with that team already facing an uphill battle with the loss of their head coach. GW names their score here.
  • Its Giles week at Narrows and this may be their best shot in many years to take down their county neighbor. Big week and what could be a statement game for this Green Wave squad.
  • No big show stopper games that stand out to an outsider in Region D but another look at whether PHGS is a contender as they play Lee in a game that should get lopsided quickly.
Sorry for rambling but there are some really good games this week for someone willing to do some traveling.

Galax should beat Rural Retreat but I can tell you Rural Retreat is a better team than they have been given credit for.

@MT FAN 91, no disrespect intended to RR. They are 2-1 with their only loss being to 2A Fort Chiswell, so they have handled their business to this point. I just believe Galax has the 1A teams pretty much covered in SWVA.

I know you didn't mean any disrespect, I just wanted to throw it out there that they are a better team than most people give them credit for.

See the NEW Top Ten Rankings Entering Week 4 Here

... We did skip the rankings that first week of September for a couple of reasons, chief among them being the hurricane and games shifted up that week, making for extra on my already full plate. Don't anticipate that happening again though and they will be updated weekly.

Also had some formatting issues, which are completely my fault, preventing me getting those Top Tens for teams 1 thru 5 uploaded from my Word Doc to our front page... but for those interesting in checking out those team capsules / previews, I'll likely be putting hyperlinks up for them next week that'll include hyperlinks to our weekly items with that, too.
