Visiting one of the Gator boards got me to thinking.....

I went to the gator rivals boards just out of curiosity this morning to see what gator fans thought of mullen as a coach.....well, I found that they think his is a 'great gator' but is throwing his coaching life into the ground....many predict that he is looking 2-10 to 0-12 in the face... and will be out in 3-4 years....I think there was only one person that predicted him with a winnning record, at 7-5.....most wish him well.... What I was thinking though, was that most people look at the MSU program with no talent, nothing in the cupboard, and with Ole Miss rolling, giving no chance for him to recruit well.... I think differently.......now, I am an avid Croom hater......I wanted him gone 3 years ago.....but looking back, 2008 was his first year as a head coach without a single player on his team that wasnt recruited by sherrill.......secondly, his first two classes sucked donkey dick, with the last 3 being average to above average getting better every year...... but with his last two classes being his best, (and this year would have been by far his best)....I look at where some or most of those guys are.....the last two classes he redshirted a lot of them, and I think he was taking a page out of Polk's philosophy.....redshirt em all with the exception of a few....So, with what we've got coming in, with some of the maturity of the last two decent classes Croom brought in, I think this could be setting up for a decent season, and a step forward each season after that..... I think if Croom thought more like Polk did from the beginning, he would still be our coach....but I guess I'm glad he is leaving something for Mullen

I also think this season could be better than a lot of people do.....but then....i am an eternal optimist.......and i like to trail off all my sentences..............

probably younger posters

for the past 8 years we have been beyond under-performing perennial losers

Croom was too stubborn to be a head coach in today's SEC

Sherrills last 3 years, he was just tired, & I am sure that LT was a probable impediment to the program

They probably just don't know us any other way

they don't remember the SEC west title, 10 win season, the ***** slappin' of Shane Mathews, or any of the great aspects of the 1990's.......they hear probation & think we were forking out hundreds of thousands of dollars, w/o realizing we were investigated un-justly for 3 years, w/ a spineless athletic director that would not stand up to the un-justness of the investigation, & then finally placed on probation for less than $ 2000.00 in confirmed infractions.

Right now, we just have the identity we have

This is a great opportunity for Mullen, & I think he is driven enough to more than succeed, & we have a fan base ready to explode w/ the slightest sign of improvement

We are going to be just fine.

The outside perception is that OM is rolling, but they are rolling with players that Nutt didn't recruit. I have to give O credit he loaded up on DL for this year, and I looked at there roster, and this was going to be there year. If fans of other programs really looked at it, they would see that as bad of a recruiter Croom was, we locked up most of the talent in the state year in and year out, and this year we could sign 8 of the top 10. The cupared is not as bare as they think. I think the biggest problem with Croom was how complicated the offense was, we were recruiting the same type of players on defense yet we always seem to have a competatvie D.

Mullen is going to change the way we recruit, he is going to hire all assitant coaches that can coach and recruit, he is going to have an administrative staff that works on PR with the HS and JUCO coaches. All of our assitants will be in HS and JUCO's around the state, and it will pay off soon. We could very well have a top 15 class this year, and with Mullen's offensvie background the days of skill players leaving the state will be over.

OM fans will not admit it, but Nutt is not a good recruiter, look at his classes at ARK, and they were the only game in town. Nutt's down fall will be his laziness to go out and build relationships, if you don't belive me look at his class this year, and even last year they didn't load up on MS players. I heard Jackie say that he could win at a high level recruiting MS alone, but the acadmics prevented MSU from signing 25 in MS every year, but he could use the JC's as a farm system. You cannot win at MSU or OM without MS players, Nutt will find out and so will the rest of the SEC. MSU is about to win at a high level in football,

I think the primary problems will be the massive losses on defense, and the lack of really any semblence of an offensive line. 5 wins would be a good result.

Other than the saftey postions I think we will be a little more talented on D and a lot deeper. We will land McPhee, we have Love and Williams on the DL, the other end will be Burns who played well at times, Behind them will be Cooper, Ferguson, Jackson, Prince and Stygers. LB looks better this year with White, Wright and the return of Chaney. We loose O'Quinn but return Anthony Johnson, Washington, and a ton of DB's.

I think the most improved postion will be OL, all these young guys that played last year will be better this year, and the spread blocking is not as hard to pickup, nor do you have to stay on your blocks very long.
