I think Langston got a late offer from KY as well but of course that wasn't mentioned. Has anyone seen him play? It just sort of got me ticked off to start the morning.

any time you can pick up a speedy receiver with good hands it's a good pick up, especially in this offense. I think Langston runs around a 4.4. He also held offers from KY, Memphis, Southern Miss.</p>
Nobody knows how good these players will pan out. Will Tyler Russell be good or will he be a pooch punter? Will our next 2* DE be the next Titus Brown?

it was amazing the glaring lack of speed we've had at the wideout position the last few years. Losing Wilder at the beginnning of the year certainly didn't help either though I have no idea if he can catch. Of course, we need speed at CB as well.
It's a decent pickup because we are in need of some depth at corner. We have Anthony Johnson and Marcus Washington as starters next year. Behind them, the only guy with experience is Damien Anderson. We had a couple of redshirts, but they were very lightly recruited. Langston gives us some speed in the return game and someone who can push for playing time at corner this year and possibly start when Washington graduates. It's also nice that he can report for spring practice. </p>

I think it has more to do with the fact that very few rebels give a **** where Maurice Langston goes. Just like I doubt you guys give a **** that we signed little known Logan Clair today.
Saw Langston play for 4 years in high school. He is very good. Showing my age he is like Palmer from Alabama with the ball in his hands. As a DB, he shut down Terry Levy when Ole Miss was so high on him. In a playoff game at Clarksdale he ran wild on them and the coach could not say enought good things about him. He was a good basketball player(played on same high school team as Osby). Good kid.

Off subject a little bit, but after thinking about it, how good is the 40 yard dash at measuring football ability?
And I'm even talking about the electronically timed 40 times you get at the NFL combines. I don't think they are a good measure of true football speed. So much of a good 40 time is dependent on having good sprinting technique in the first 10-20 yards. Having good starting technique versus average starting technique can mean the difference between a 4.3 and a 4.5 or 4.6.
However, at what point during a football game do you get down in a sprinter's stance and run 40 yards? Never. And that's my theory on why you see a guy like Jerry Rice who ran a 4.6 even though he never seemed to get caught from behind.
My theory is that at least in the NFL, they should start measuring the last 20 yards of a guy's 40, when he's already at top speed. That would be a better comparative speed measure. Shay Hodge is the person that got me thinking about it. You never hear of him having a good 40 time, but when he gets behind the defense he never gets caught, and he often actually creates more separation. That's just one of my soapboxes. If a guy runs a true 4.3 or 4.4, you know he's got speed, but if he's running a 4.6, how do you know if he's slow or if he just has poor starting technique?

Rosebowl said Langston ran a 4.52 at Scout's juco combine and had a 39" vertical and the combines fastest time in the shuttle. I think he is quicker than he is fast.
Langston Heads List of ECCC Football Players Continuing Careers Citing a desire to play in the Southeastern Conference and close to home, East Central Community College football standout Maurice Langston of Meridian cast his lot with Mississippi State University during a scholarship signing ceremony held Wednesday, Dec. 17 on the Decatur campus. Langston, a 5-10, 180-pound all-purpose performer for the Warriors the past two seasons, verbally committed to new Bulldog head coach Dan Mullen after the two met Friday in Meridian. He had received numerous offers but narrowed his choices to MSU and the University of Memphis. Regarding the new MSU head mentor, Langston said Mullen "seemed like a very intense guy and seems like he has some great goals for the program." Langston said he looks forward to being a member of the Bulldog team and added, "I really appreciate the opportunity to play football on the Division I level." Langston, a product of Northeast Lauderdale High School, was named to the All-Region 23 and Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) first teams as a wide receiver and return specialist. He was also chosen most valuable back in the MACJC South Division. In addition, he was selected the Warriors' most valuable player and was named most valuable offensive back and most valuable special teams member. The new Bulldog led the league in scoring with 102 points and was the top punt returner with 14 attempts for 434 yards - a 31-yard average - and two touchdowns. He was also among the top kickoff return specialists, averaging 22 yards per return for 243 yards and a score. In addition, he placed second in receiving yardage with 44 receptions for 658 yards - a 73-yard average per contest - and seven touchdowns. He also had 54 rushes for 267 yards -a 4.9-yard per average - and scored 10 touchdowns. Langston also had success as a passer, as he completed his only attempt for a 64-yard touchdown strike. Langston has completed degree requirements at ECCC and plans to transfer to MSU in January.
