Only ask that because now that he is gone, there's going to be a lot of back and forth on who people want and who we can get. People will be loosing their $*!^ wanting a coach named. The issue is, there is still 3 weeks in the season, then conference tournaments, then regionals, then supers and then the CWS. The coach we want and may end up getting may not be available to even officially interview for WEEKS.

No, not at all. We can begin an official search with a committee finally. Before this, it had to be done in the background.

None of these coaches turn their phone off during the season, they just don't make anything public until after their current season ends.

Unless Selmon is wanting to see what Parker can do on an interim basis I'm not sure what is gained doing this 3 weeks before the season is done. I guess we can get a slight head start on things.

Why would he wait until the end of the season to begin a coaching search? This team has a tall tall task ahead of them to even slide into the back of a regional, and even if that happens it's not good enough. It's not all about the last 3 weeks of this season, it's about having an early pick of who we want to lead a premier program that needs new blood.

Don't disagree that it needed to be done before the end of the season, especially so an official search can begin. But can you imagine what this place is going to be like if we don't have a guy in place in 4-5-6 weeks after the firing. That's a realistic possibility. If we waited 2 weeks, that window of not having a coach might shorten and help prevent the meltdown that is to come if we don't name a guy until after the Supers.

Absolutely not. Gives you a head start on your process of looking for a coach (I'm sure there's some legal jargon in contract that states we can't actively look for a head coach while Lemonis was still employed; or at least for my imaginary scenario that's a thing). You give Parker a chance to get hot, go on a run and EARN the job, which if that happens it looks like a genius decision by the athletic dept.

Vice versa, you give yourself an opportunity of a free out with Parker if things go terrible, and a large % of the folks who'd defend him would get chopped in half.

It also give your fanbase some relief w/ what they've been collectively screaming for the last while

It's going to be just fine. You can actually start to move forward with things now.

Too soon? He should have been gone end of '23 if not '22. You don't go from 1st to worst" in one season unless something is wrong. Then you follow it up with next to last, skate into a regional last year backwards and then this shat show if a season? Why would you want him around any longer to embarrass himself and the program?

I don't know what this accomplishes. It makes me think they wanted to remove the possibility of the team making a run and making it harder to fire him.

At 7-14, we were less than 50-50 to make the tournament, but 3-3 vs. Kentucky/Ole Miss and a sweep of Missouri would at least have us sweating out the committee.

I'll step in in the interim for half of what he was making until we find a replacement. I'll even setup the new guy's office for him!

Didn't read the last 2 words I see. too soon "this season"

I do agree, the screen door could have hit him in the arse at the end of 22 or 23 and I would have been happy.

No, I read it, but if 2 seasons ago wasnt soon enough then any time this season couldn't be too soon

I hope they have made some contacts before they even pulled this trigger. They should be on a short list by now.

Well, there's a trainer at OU, there's a bat boy at OU, and maybe some guy that takes tickets at OU that salmon is probably in deep discussions with

When you are done with a guy you are done with him. Maybe it doesn’t help to do it mid season but it doesn’t help to wait either

Should absolutely have been done at the end of '23. But in '24, we limp into a regional, with a quick exit, then follow that up with more MLB draftees than any other school. There should have been much more success with that group than we had.

Of all the postgame radio Lemonis interviews I suffered through, I missed his last one for the Sunday game. Anybody listen that can give a brief synopsis? Did he say farewell to Polk and Neil like he already knew or what?

Depends what you want. We are going to win 6 of the next 9 and have a RPI around 35. They couldn’t let Lem get on a roll.

Older I get, the more I realize that there’s no good way to end things. It’s over now, and will largely be a non-story in a matter of days.

This is extremely simple to me….the fan base was reaching a generational level of apathy, and justifiably so. It’s not that we’re losing….its HOW we’ve been losing.

Error after error.
Stranded runner after stranded runner.
Baserunning blunder after baserunning blunder.
Terrible decision after terrible decision, pitching-wise….position-wise….

We have lost frequently and looked awful doing it for FOUR FREAKING YEARS, and there is no scenario in which you can justify that. No program with our history and support should have to tolerate the level of play we’ve been subjected to.

I really like Kyle Peterson and his insight, but he, Kendall Rogers, and any other talking head can take their virtue-signaling indignance and shove it up their Noble Dudy twice.

If it means Justin Parker is being evaluated for the job, then yes.

He said “Ligon wasn’t good today“ and “we did not defend”. That was about it other than general comments about Auburn playing better.

I think we should have given him at least 8 more years. There are records we don't have in baseball.
