Washington will go as far as the refs let them.

IF they are allowed to play like they did yesterday then they have a good shot at an Elite 8 or so. If Overton and Brockman are called for one of their 18 fouls a game then they are out in the next round. They were exactly the type of team we did not want to run into....physical and tough. Oh well, I could not be much more proud of our guys. A very unexpected season to say the least.

thabeet is big enough to not get pushed around as much as JV did, plus he usually gets the calls. uconn has the length, size, and athleticism to give them problems.

but you're right - they are some pushing sonsabitches. and the refs let them do that all night.

significantly more free throws than their opponents if they played the physical style they did yesterday all season. Overton's hands stayed all over our ball handler the whole time and he could have easily been called for about 15 fouls. Down low, Brockman was shoving people around like a bulldozer and I was shocked when Varnado got his first foul by being manhanled off the court by Brockman. But I agree that if they are allowed to play that way through the tournament without sending people to the foul line, they have a chance to go far.

Dictated the entire game. When handchecking and shoving is allowed against the point guard then getting into your offense is impossible because you have to waste one guy to do nothing but set screens to get the little punk off of him. It reminded me of the Rod Barnes years at Ole Miss when they used to let their guards get right up in your grill and mug the opposing guards.

I couldn't stand that guy. It's like the refs felt sorry for him being so short that they let him get away with anything.

All it would take is one time. When that guy comes running up and gets all over you, nonchalantly plant your forehead into his nose. 1. It'd end his tournament for that year and 2. I guarantee you he'd think twice before doing it ever again.</p>

I'm not going to blame the refs for this loss.

For the most part, the Washington players had position on our players defensively. They were just quicker to the spot and stronger... yes, contact was made but I think they held their position better than we did all game long. And, yes, you have to adjust to the refs' style, and they did it better than we did.

Probably get lit up by the whistle on the road. I HATE cryin' about the officials, a storied tradition among our fanbase, but the inconsistency in calls
as we saw yesterday drives me crazy. What was a foul? The pushing, reaching, grabbing, and shoving on the perimeter? No. The touch stuff in the paint? Yes, at times. The over-reacting, i.e. flopping, by the Washington guys? And you want to really get me fired up? Start calling the touch fouls on the opposition when the outcome has virtually been decided. All that said, I give Washington credit. They seemed to understand how the game was being officiated, they got into our heads, and they imposed their will on us.

even in intramurals. beckham acted like he had never seen someone play defense like that. of course, beckham also acted like he had never played basketball before, so...
