You're absolutely correct. This is a major part of WHY Calipari can't get the recruits he goes after ... because they feel they must declare after the first year or be forced to transfer. This is a huge flaw, and the "kids" will pay the price for Calipari's folly. But wait ... it's all about the "kids" so with that, at least, Cal can feel better about it.

It doesn’t help when you have the NBA Giovanni types with agendas bad mouthing the system Calipari runs. UK was kicking tail before the injuries started piling up. I just feel bad for Washington for being punished for toughening it out through those injuries.

Washington was a mid-tier 4 star ranked like 75th in his class 15 months ago. Going anywhere in the first round as a one and done is an excellent outcome for him.

Recruits that wait until the last minute to commit generally get a bump from recruiting services, Washington was clearly deserving of that bump, but still, the NBA was a pipe dream not long ago for him.

Happy for him, hope he works hard and carves out a career for himself in the NBA.

Yep. He will make $1.8 next year and probably could come close to that by staying another year.

History has not been kind to our guys who go toward the back end of the first round:

Orton
Goodwin
Teague
Skal

Keldon is one of the exceptions. They're taken by teams that don't need them, and placed into a situation where they're not depended upon.

Meanwhile, a guy like James Young was given a few extra chances because Boston invested a top 20 pick in him. There's a longer leash for guys in that range vs. guys in the late 20s.

I think making sure his mom gets the medical attention she needs asap and is comfortable trumps what a few fans think is best for him.

Would it be better for UK if Cal veered away from any recruit that’s states he is a o&d?

All these recruit rankings do to give them a false sense of how good they are. I trust a coaches eyes on how good a kid can be over some internet recruiting guru.

Only time will tell if he made the right choice. Maybe he just didn’t want to attend classes anymore. I wish him well. Seems like a great kid.

I totally understand where you’re coming from about him coming off a title. But I think it was pretty well known if he didn’t come back he was gonna be a short timer in the league. He was definitely nowhere near what his brother was.

Rockets really need a PG, and he's a perfect fit.

No expectation to perform, he's a 4th/5th option on a team that will give him plenty of run.

Dude is constantly hurt and has boobs. Sure, he can mature physically as a pro, and yeah he ended up guaranteed, but he probably cost himself several millions going that route.

Hard to judge him for staying in the draft. He could have turned out like Juzang.

This critique from The Athletic: TyTy Washington, 6-3 freshman guard, Kentucky. “I think he’s gonna slip in the draft. He was at 12 percent body fat at the combine. He slept walked through his pro day. There’s way too many questions. He’s not a blow-by guy. I love his IQ, he’s a good basketball player, but he hasn’t helped himself in this process. He’s a combo guard, but he’s better with the ball in his hands. He was just OK shooting the ball, but he’s got good mechanics. I don’t think he’s a great athlete, so turning the corner or going downhill is an area of concern. His shot selection was messed up, which knocked his percentage down. But you’ve seen that Kentucky bump in the past where those guys do really well in the league. That thing is real. He’s probably a decent backup.”
