He was a guy that was told if he pulled his velocity up, he would get a scholarship offer. He did and the rest is history. He wanted to go to state and worked hard to get the offer.

is Butch. Butch wanted this kid on the staff and he knew with his frame that he would get stronger and get his fb up. From talking to Butch, he thinks with Cox size and frame that he will get that fb into the low 90's before he's gone. Kid has extremely long arms.

I think Thompson gave cox a goal to reach and if he got to that goal, he would get an offer. I remember reading that somewhere.
You are correct. Cox as a junior was topping out around 87 or so, but he really wanted to go to MSU. We told him we would take him if he got his velocity up to 90. He did- I actually saw him hit 92 at Trustmark Park. His pitching coach was Brian Maxcy of all people- Maxcy once pitched at Ole Miss. Ole Miss and USM were both interested in him as well.
