Watch "One Night in March" - the documentary about the '63 MSU team online
Ten years ago, I teamed up with Paul Jones to tell the story of the 1963 MSU basketball team. Paul had his eyes on doing something in print, but I thought the story was perfect for TV. I released "One Night in March" in the Spring of 2002. It featured interviews with the players from that team, raw pictures and footage. It aired on Mississippi Public Broadcasting and showed at a few film festivals.
This Saturday, State will meet Loyola (Chicago) for the first time since that historic game in 1963. I thought it was only fitting to let the Bulldog family see this documentary- online and free- to understand the importance and context of the game. I think it is one of the most important events not only in MSU history, but the history of Mississippi. It was sandwiched between the 1962 integration of James Meredith into Ole Miss and the 1964 murders of the civil rights workers in Philadelphia. To put it bluntly, it was a time when white residents of the state did something right as far as race relations were concerned in a dark time in our state's history.
Some folks probably think I'm nuts for putting it up free, concerning the renewed interest in the story and the fact we are in the prime gift giving season. You can call and order a copy (662-324-2489) or hit www.OneNightinMarch.com if you want to get it for a Bulldog fan.
Hope you enjoy watching half as much as I enjoyed making it.
