Vern Lunquist says only 3 SEC teams make the tourney. None from SEC west! This jackass says 9 teams from Big East get in. I know this is a down year for the conference, but come on. There are mid-major conferences that will put 3 teams in. Total lack of respect!

Second, blue posted this already.

Third, as Blue noted, its really hard to argue with.

If the tourney started today, how do you make an argument for anyone but TN, FL, and KY?

It's not a total lack of respect. It's an opinion - from someone who is probably pretty well informed.

Do you think the conference is that bad? Not state. There will be more than 3 teams deserving of the NCAA. There is a lot of ball left to be played. You never known who will get hot at the end.

At this point, yes, I think the conference is that bad.

I'm having trouble figuring out which teams, other than UT, UK, Florida (which are the 3 I assume Seth was talking about) would get in.

Maybe South Carolina if they keep playing strong. They have wins vs Florida and Baylor, but a bad loss against Charleston. LSU is playing well but doesn't have any big resume wins (Ws over SC and MSU aren't big in my opinion) and a loss to TAMU which may or may not turn out to be bad. And we have 2 baddddd losses and no real solid wins yet, as it seems Arkansas it turrrible.

So he's spot on it would seem.

At least one of these three will make it. But they've got to get hot in the stretch and will need to win a few in SEC tourney.

I think 4 could get in... I think Florida and Kentucky are in if they keep playing well. I also think that Tennessee doesn't have to do too much more to get in since their schedule has been pretty tough. However, I could see one SECW team getting in if they finish 12-4 or 11-5.

but like I said in the other thread, I don't think UT or UF stand out over LSU to be a "lock" for the tourney.

no. 19 RPI according to Realtime. They have 3 quality wins (Sienna? Really?), one of them over the No. 9 RPI team in the country.

There is no question they would get in easily if the tournament started today.

As usual, some of you are excited because we're the 4th or 5th best SEC team by default. I say it's the story of Rick's career. And as usual, it doesn't mean ****. Winning the West = miss The Dance. So wtf good does it do to win the West?

I think this team has potential and so does LSU. Let's just see how the rest of our conference games unfold before you write them off. I think they could give UK, UF and UT a run for their money. They could also lay an egg. Because Stansbury is going to play small we'll have to make 3's to win ball games. LSU is very talented, and they can beat any team in the east if their heads are on straight. I think the east is by far better top to bottom with UGA being their only weak link. We'll just have to give it time. We're playing better ball, and can get in the NCAA tourney if things continue to improve.

They are annointed as the best conference year in and year out, and they have won 3 of the last 20 national championships. The ACC, now that I would agree with, but the Big East seems a perennial over rate.

and being the best conference are 2 completely different things.

The Big East is loaded.

Amen. If winning the NC is a strength of conference indicator, CUSA came very close to being king of the hill last year.

Vern is the old dude, for the record.

9 from the Big East is something that has been discussed since before the season even started. The ongoing conversation has been whether or not the conference could actually get double digits into the tournament.

and yep, its a down year...again.

there are maybe 2 mid major conferences that i can think of that could get 3 teams in. the WCC and the MVC. maybe the MWC or A10 could? but currently the all knowing Lunardi lists none of them as getting 3 teams in.

Just because we are the SEC doesnt mean we have a birthright to at least 5 teams in the tournament. Jeez, that sort of thinking is exactly why i detest UK fans...its as if they feel they deserve to be an elite team just because they have historically been good.

I know they beat Georgetown, and have played a really tough ooc schedule(and lost most of those games), but how can you lose 6 games this early and be #19 rpi? I don't get that.

RPI is pretty much all about your schedule. Regardless, they've beaten 3 teams in the top 25 RPI. That's impressive.

We are behind the 8ball on RPI b/c our non conf schedule was really bad and we lost 2 games at home.

Once aGAIN, we have played a weak pre-conference and are fighting to win the weak side of the SEC? And people constantly worry we couldnt do any better than this?

What the hell does the conference's record in previous NCAA tournaments have to do with how many teams from that conference are tournament worthy THIS SEASON???

nothing.

I think if we had played a tougher non conference schedule we would have lost all of them and we would be sitting in the same place that we are now in the RPI with many more losses.

50% of your RPI before adjustments is opponents' winning percentage and 25% is opp opp winning percentage. So replacing an easy win with, say, Duke on the road is going to help you.

And remember, the RPI doesn't care who you beat or who you lose to. It only cares about who you play and where you win/lose.

that Im not sure its that easy for us to get games against teams that are guaranteed to help our RPI. I think the best thing would be to stop scheduling the 200s and 300s

I've always thought about why not yearly just schedule more of the weaker teams in the big conferences. That way you dont take the hit in the RPI. Get rid of the 250+ ones off the schedule. The good bball schools play the really bad teams like Longwood but they counter it with some quality opponents.

Our first 3 Div. I games were against the #251, #289, and #315 rated teams (combined record of 17-42). Replace those with teams like Lamar, Ark. St., and UT-Martin (all in the #150 range and with a combined record of 30-20), and our RPI would be much better.

if you are going to play some bad teams, play them on the road so you can get the road win bonus in the adjustment.

how bout taking some trips to Dook, Michigan St, UCLA, Texas, Wake Forest, Boston College, etc...and building our schedule nationally to use as a recruiting tool to get higher profile recruits to notice us? Stansbury is a good coach afterall, and has us as the top program in the West...we should do fine playing in these games and building our program to a higher level
