Watching the replay - Perkins first TD catch should not have been a touchdown...

how they missed that on replay is beyond me but I'll take it. He didn't secure the ball until he was out of bounds.

It was a good call. He had the ball and got his foot down in bounds.

He was still bobbling the ball. I'm guessing it was a make-up call.

I don't think they could use the replay to call the blatant face mask/pass interference, so they either had to completely screw MSU or give MSU a touchdown that it likelyh would have gotten anyway had they gotten the call right in the first place.

It isn't the NFL. You don't have to hold it still throughout. He had it still when he got his foot in bounds. The NFL wouldn't have liked it that he started bobbling as he hit the ground, but that doesn't matter in college.

Not enough to overturn it. The ball was still moving when he was going out of bounds, but he had it pinned against his body. I do not believe there is a rule saying the ball has to be 'secure' before going out of bounds.

First time hearing this rule difference, if true

Football official here. It is not true. With the exception of the one-foot versus two-feet rule difference, the requirements for making a catch in the NFL and NCAA are the same. That includes the whole "maintaining control after hitting the ground" thing.

I missed this live, but just went to ESPN3 to watch it. Should have been ruled incomplete. (Of course, the missed face mask was even more egregious. Did that play a factor in the replay booth? I don't know. I never know how those guys think.)

Didn't know that. Thanks for posting.

Rule is the rule. But I hate the rule. Ground can't cause a fumble, but it can cause in incompletion.

Yep, should have been incomplete but with 15 yard

facemask penalty. Also, am I blind, or did they spot Dak about a yard shy of his forward progress right before we scored on 4th down? Also thought Wilson got a bad spot a drive or two later on his 4th down scramble (still shy of 1st down but not a whole yard where they marked it).

Yes, I couldn't believe how terrible that spot was. He easily got the first down and the ref spotted him a yard shy. Glad it didn't cost us.
