But they have tried, and were not real successful at it. Funny (and not surprising) that you missed the point entirely.
We are 102 in total defense and 76 in scoring defense. Some of you guys think it's not right to criticize the program after only for games. You are entitled to your opinion and so are those of us who are really disappointed in the results so far. We knew recruiting would take time but we thought this experienced coaching staff would be better at coaching up players. Certainly Tommy looks better but the defense is a mess and we are making more dumb penalties than ever.

I admire you guys really, to be optimistic after what we have seen in the first 4 games is something I simply cannot do - I did that with Callahan and then with Bo. I remained optimistic until almost the bitter end despite logic telling me they sucked much earlier
I just cannot do it with this staff - its clear after 4 games we have major issues that are not all due to depth or recruiting for that matter. I know in my gut this will all end badly and when it does,then watch the media blast NU because now it is not a foul mouth jerk we turned on - it was the ultimate nice guy coach. The media views us as a program that simply cannot accept its place in CFB

Criticize away. But I think one should also highlight the positives. Especially when it, in this case, is the way to win the B10 west. Put together a healthy LB core with a few great corners and suddenly our defense looks very good. Recruiting is going to get us there.
Ok, so the answer it to start 157 threads pointing out that the defense is struggling and ripping the program? Really looking forward to the next 15 that will undoubtedly be posted today.
Always much easier to point out problems than to point out a solution to the problems. The whiners on here DON'T HAVE A CLUE about ANY possible way to solve the issues because there isn't any easy solution. We're short of quality depth and we're incredibly banged up at positions we couldn't afford ANY injuries at let alone FOUR.
Give us a solution. You can't. Nobody can unless its a miracle shot to get all of our starting backers and DEs back on the field together healthy at one time. We're beyond screwed.
I don't accept these excuses. It doesn't change the fact that people are out of position and making mental mistakes. It is obvious that lack of talent alone is not the issue.
Then discuss it smart guy, instead of posting not-so-clever one-liners that are aimed at doing nothing more than bagging on the team. That is all you are.
Get a DC in at Nebraska who doesn't have an overwhelming history of coaching poor defenses? That would be a start.

So playing 3 or 4 FRESHMAN doesn't explain being out of position or making mental mistakes? Well alrighty then. Freedom got called for lining up in the neutral zone. Our backer didn't get a deep enough drop on a TD pass that allowed the qB to drop the ball over him on a slant. Our freshmen and walk on linebackers repeatedly got rubbed and beat on routes to the flat. That's inexperience and maybe a lack in athleticism and THAT is not Banker's fault. Who knew that we were going to lose all THREE of our backers with any experience to injury in the first 4 games of the season? They did their best to try to develop some depth at backer last spring and fall including moving Gifford. Just keep pounding the drum with no sense of reality.
Stupid comment. HCs bring in their own staffs. Period. Anything else stupid you want to add?
It really illustrates your goals when you find it 'fun' to log a post illustrating a successful metric from our team so that you can presumably use it to your advantage if/when it gets worse later in the season.

I know the staff wouldn't use this as a major excuse but this last week was a tough week with so many players missing practice time. It makes their job of repetition of the game plan that much harder

I think it is dumb to not consider it a strong possibility that they could. The defense is that bad.
