Doing so gives RU the opportunity to knock the King off his throne.(note that I said opportunity NOT chance) The Chance will have to be earned by our players during the game. That's why they play the game. There are 60 minutes to see if RU can make it happen. It will be good watching to see if this gets done.I have great hopes, not expectations, that it will be accomplished on Saturday.:sunglasses:

I think it might be the second time that #1 has come into Rutgers Stadium. But we also hosted Alabama at Giants Stadium in 1980 when they were #1 following two national championships, IIRC, and nearly knocked them off, losing by 17-13. That was one of the very few times that RU ever achieved much of a home field advantage at GS. It was also, I believe, the largest gathering ever of RU fans in one place until the Cincinnati game of 2009 in the re-re-expanded campus stadium.

Yup. #1 Miami in Piscataway. #1 Alabama in The Meadowlands.

I think #1 Lehigh (D2) as well

I remember driving up the Turnpike behind a caravan of RV's with Bama, Roll Tide and the elephant plastered on them. Thought to myself this is what big time football is like.

alas it still wasn't like Big Time Football because then the RV's would have arrived on Thursday and the game would be on campus.

I believe Texas too, in the Shea era.

They were unranked when they played here in 1999. So unless they came in another year they are not on the list.

Alabama -1980
Pitt -1981
Miami - 2002
And now OSU

I think Florida in 1985 would have been #1 if they weren't on probation...we tied them in Gainsville

I wonder about Princeton...

They must have been #1 at some point when we played them given their powerhouse years...

Then again, for lots of years we played every year at Princeton...

Source?

Super fan- if you notice- he says "I think"...show some freaking respect to the man. He has earned it on this board and I am very sure he has earned it in life. And I can assure you he has watched more football then any of us. If he made a mistake- there is no reason for your comment.
