Well, Duke is hand picking whoever they want with a nearly unprecedented NIL offering and whatever else they were offering guys like Zion, on top of that. You're not going to be able to compete with that.
Maybe we should just drop to D3 like St Joseph since we obviously can’t compete with the big boys.

Not from HS but from portal. Not sure if this is better.

I think Pope and staff needs to clean house . Not all 3 freshman are Kentucky caliber. Even if you develop them they will not grow any longer or be more athletic.

I was hoping , Pope will say next year is reconstructing year and buy himself some time. And this year , get some players that are long , athletic with some skills that we can develop and have 2-3 years of eligibility left.

If we go again for players with one year of eligibility left to chase again number 9, we will be in the same situation next year.

Be patient this coming year, set realistic goals and recruiting targets and build a great team in 2-3 years from now.

Otherwise, I am not sold in the current approach: Perry, Noah. Chandler, Garrison and the 3 incoming freshman cannot start next year. That’s 7 spot on the roaster. Unless he goes 15 deep, Pope will not only hinder next year success but also the years to come.

He should be able by now to evaluate players and those who are not Kentucky caliber , just say thank you and let them go.

Duke was not afraid last year to have an honest assessment and conversation with the PG that played in a final four for K, Roach because they wanted to upgrade. They were not wrong on doing so if you have watched the Duke Vs Baylor game.
So, we're still doing that because we had ZERO players and ZERO STAFF. You're mad we had a team this year? At all?

It”s crazy how now days you can’t have a critical opinion about Pope.

It reminds of other times when we got two other Coaches and you could not say anything critical about them in the beginning and now the same two Coaches are cursed out on this forum after each of them won a title for Kentucky.

We don’t have enough data points to understand how Pope will look to build the program. The first year is an outlier as of now. There was no choice but to compile the roster how it was built. If 3 years from now we’re still having massive roster turnover with no consistency, then you’ll have an argument. Until then, any knee jerk reactions are premature and ignorant. And I don’t mean ignorant as in dumb, but rather than not actually knowing and assuming what we want to.

Looks like another troll, guess what fool, college basketball has evolved, if coaches don't keep up with that evolution they will not succeed.

Don’t understand this idea that the five possible returnees should be run off. Oweh is already a nice player and will improve. Garrison is just a soph and has ability/talent; better decision making and he will be a force. The three freshmen will all improve dramatically, like normal freshmen do with good coaching. We just never got to see it the last 15 years.

Many on here remember another Travis (Ford) who played very little as a redshirt sophomore on the 92 team, then busted out as a junior in 93. I think Pope understands that guys like CC, TP, and TN need time to develop into major contributors.

I got to hand it to the OP.

He's absolutely dominated this message board since last night at around 11:30 with horrible takes.

We gave him exactly what he wanted by giving him attention.

Yeah delete this garbage. This guy needs to root for calipari. People are upset over the loss. Let pope do what he wants to do. You have to let him figure it out and give kids a chance in year 2. I dunno so much garbage it’s pathetic if you are a real fan.
Every post on this board could call for cleaning house or getting this type or that type of players and Coach Pope could care less what the fans want. I'm sure he does not read this board but even if he did, he will do it his way and could care less what fans want. He is being paid to make ALL decisions and gladly he will make ALL decisions. For every mistake we think Pope has made the fans calling for change would make a 1000 mistakes. Coach Pope should not be judged in any way before the 2026 - 2027 season. It takes time to establish the culture and players needed to fit a coaches plan.

I know most of BBN wants immediate gratification and Pope declared that will chase titles from year one but that’s just totally unrealistic.
Listen dude. In the current climate you shouldn’t have to wait years to build things. Just look around teams are built over night and the days of recruiting and retaining are over bc of nil. You can bring in the best guys perfect for your system to develop and they transfer. You can bring them in bc they love UK and they transfer. Players want nil $$$ and playing time. The days of a guy sitting and watching are over. He will go to xavier type or a mid major type program play develop and transfer to a high major program when it’s time to demonstrate on the big stage. Look around cbb this is how it’s done

Some people just live to play the contrarian role. I've noticed that from this one since the SEC Tournament. The clueless act like he is wholesome and legit in his intentions when called to the carpet is pathetic. Anyone bitching about the transfer portal, think where Kentucky would have been this year without it. This rebuild after Cal with Pope would have been ugly. A Sweet 16 run with some huge wins this year with the roster that came together starting in mid-April.

To me... The way to win going forward... And really has been that way.... Is to be able to recruit the 1 or 2 really good players that stay a year or two... And surround them with older... Mature role players. Not everyone needs to be a star... But everyone can't be freshmen either... You need the ability to hold on, and develop those high 3 and 4 star players.... And hope one turns the corner his junior year. Or.. You find that diamond in the rough in the portal.... And catch lighting in a bottle. Yes... We need to upgrade our talent, and out of the 3 current freshmen... Chandler shows the most promise., and if he stays a breakout next year... Noah next, has the size and body to be physical and a good outside shot... And Perry... I dint think really plays meaningful minutes. But also... If we had more athletes around a Noah or Perry... Pope's offense would flow better... And those open 3 point shots would be there... But it takes time, more than a year for the system to be installed to where it was second nature... Pope's offense relies on speed and timing... And we struggled with that alot, because half the players struggled to dribble... Breas ball handling improved alot from the start of the year to the tourney... But he was still slow getting around picks and cuts.. Don't have to have the guys that can jump out of the gym... Speed, dribbling and vision, and the ability to hit open looks.... I'll take those every day over what people call just athletes... Because last 6 years... Alot of non athletes have kicked our ***.

Recruit and attract high-level talents by any means necessary. Then build a system around them. Don't rely on being a one trick pony (overly reliant on 3's and passing bigs from the high post).
Resume operation GATHER and GO!!!!?

We seem to catch everyone coming and going, just singing the opposite tune from the last pass by.

it took about 15 minutes for NIL to turn to pay to play.

the next logical step is contracts.

Colleges never gave 4 year scholarships to players because the dirty secret is they never wanted to lock themselves into a player and fill up a team with guys that couldn't compete so scholly's were year to year.

I bet you're going to see multi- year contracts that are back ended, with retention bonuses and performance incentives.

NIL has been around 2 years now and we're already hearing coaches tell players they are being paid to play a certain way.

Posters on this board don't want to confront the truth in the O.P. post. Continuing down this path without high level athletes is untenable.
Florida is managing just fine:

Walter Clayton Jr - #69 transfer (#17 PG)
Thomas Haugh - NR 3 star
Alex Condon - NR 3 star
Alijah Martin - #129 transfer
Will Richard - #46 transfer
Rueben Chinyelu - #104 transfer

Same with Houston. Coaching, fit and development are still the best way to win.

Dan Hurley wasn’t landing superstars on his way to B2B titles either.

Pope is definitely not trying to do OAD.

He has one Senior so far for next season and he was on the squad this past season (Oweh).

We have a Junior and three Sophomores expected to come back.

Coach has gotten two commitments, one from a Junior to be and one from a Sophomore to be.

He is heavily after Yates (Sophomore), Folgueiras (Junior), and Pierre (Junior).

Sounds like he is at least trying to build a program rather than just a team.
