We batted .143 this weekend. God bless our pitching staff.

In SEC games, our batting avg. is 30 points lower than our opponents. It's pretty simple. Our staff doesn't walk people.

Bless their hearts. They know a lot rides on them. They have done an excellent job pretty much all season.

but Ole Miss went .228 for the weekend which gets you beat two out of three. I'll take the two wins no matter how we get them.

As I have watched the scoreboard this year and compared our players' batting averages against our opponents, I have been convinced of one thing. Adam Frazier may be the only person we have in the lineup that would be playing on a regular basis for other SEC teams. Other than him, some of our "hottest" hitters are batting below .250. Also, there have been several occasions this year where we have had multiple players in the lineup batting below .200. That is embarrassing for any level of baseball past little league. Thank God that our pitching is decent.

We batted .143 and they batted .228, but batting .228 gets you beat 2 out of 3?

We pitched lights out on Friday and they pitched horribly in the first inning on Sunday. That's why they lost 2 of 3.

it wasn't your pitching that got you beat. Sure the starter was terrible, but overall giving up 4 runs should get you a win on Sunday.

Of course, I'd like a larger spread to work with, but our pitching staff is doing well enough to where 4 runs will get us a W if we field well.

But you're still not taking into account that on Sunday, everybody's down to their #3 starter and the bullpens are often depleted. I'm sure the average runs scored per game on Sunday is a lot higher than 4.68.

I'm sure pat appreciates the assistance, though.

And FWIW, we give up 4.38 runs per SEC game. 4, on average would yield us a loss as well.

Looking at the stats, it's pretty clear we crowd the plate and take a lot of pitches. Are we doing so because that's Cohen's preference (small ball with dead bats) or are we just adjusting to our talent (no power to work with)? I would assume that if we didn't crowd the plate, we would have more room to work with and get our slugging percentages us a bit. Of course, with more room, we won't get walked/hit as much so our OBP may suffer.

I'm not advocating anything, I'm just curious what our approach to the game is since hitting is such a hot topic right now. I have been and always will be just a casual observer of baseball so I'm making very general observations here...

We need guys that approach hitting the way that cat does. That M17er is pissed when he steps into the box. He swings with anger.

The hitting has been bad and I, too, am tired of seeing guys watch third strikes on close pitches (Renfroe yesterday); BUT, I will take any damn win any damn way we can get it.

needs to have someone throw him nothing but curve balls and off speed pitches all summer, literally, all day, everyday from sun up until sun down.

That Renardo Sidney Brotha From Anotha Mutha is striking out at a Rob Deer-esque clip.

Our guys have balls of iron taking the hit batsman like they do. Hell that's as good as them getting a single.

If we had just an average offense we would be one scary team. The fact that we have won as many games as we have with our offense that couldn't hit it off of a tee speaks volumes for our pitching staff. I wonder if the league woudl let Cohen get about 30 feet off and underhand the ball like 6 year old coach pitch little league if we could do any better?

I believe our guys could definitely hit of a tee....Now the results might still be the same...weak ground balls and pop ups to short left center field. But I most definitely believe they could "hit" off a tee.**

their batting average sucked just like ours. They had a few scattered hits and by the time walks and hit by pitches are thrown in, we had a better on base percentage for the series. Nothing to write home about, but everyone complaining about the batting average act like they were hitting .350 for the weekend. They were just as bad as us and that's why they lost two of three.
